I Hate Dialysis Message Board

Hi everyone! I'm a 60 year old female with PKD (mother and grandmother had it). Just started dialysis at the beginning of the year (AV fistula was July 3rd) and within a few weeks switched to nocturnal AND switched nephrologists. Both were among the best decisions I ever made! I dialyze MWF 18 hours a week and am feeling great. My new Dr. wants me off as many meds as possible (already down from 32 pills a day to 16) and only 5 of those are prescription meds. I have no other medical problems that I know of and have known about my PKD since I was in my 30s so dialysis was completely expected, but the trauma was not! I was infiltrated the first time they stuck me and it happend several times thereafter so my start was quite harrowing but on nocturnal, there is only a small staff who is the same every night and my tech is wonderful! Oh yes, I hate it and will hate it even more when my car breaks down at 4 a.m. on the 30 mile drive home but at least it's getting warm now so I won't freeze to death waiting for AAA!
Had my first appointment with the transplant center last week and it went very well. More to go but I'm hoping to get on the list since I have no potential living donors.
I found this board by accident when I was looking for info as to whether or not my falling hair and horrible weak nails were due to the dialysis. The posts immediately had me laughing and I knew that I belonged here. :cheer:

Welcome, WireMom! :welcomesign;
A lot of people seem to find this board while they are looking for something else. I like the sound of the cutting back of your pills - remembering them can be a pain. Hope to see you posting often.

Welcome WireMom. Can you do home nocturnal? That way you wouldnt have to worry about the drive back and forth. So glad you found IHD. Lots of good people and info here. One of our daughters lives in Sweetwater. We hope to make a trip down that way. Maybe we can meet, huh!
Again welcome & God Bless,

I don't think so. I will be on Medicare soon (if it ever kicks in) and I live alone. Would be fun to meet if you're this way!

Welcome to our community, Wiremom! Of course you belong here. This is just the place for information and support, and a place to rage, rave, rant or vent. You have come upon your new family :grouphug; . You just to keep reading and keep posting, so we can know how you are doing. I wish you the best of the transplant list. I have been on dialysis for about eight years now, and am only now beginning to consider a transplant which my daughter wishes to donate.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
