Title: cr level jumped to 1.59 is that normal?
Post by: sullidog on February 26, 2013, 01:06:44 PM
Hi all, been a while.
My cr level is all over the place, staying in the 1 range but it has jumped to 1.29 to 1.35 now to 1.59. Is this normal to happen post tx? I know cr levels will go up and down but is it normal to go up to 1.59 from 1.29 over a 2 week span? My tx center hasn't called so they must not be concerned. I know the last time it went to 1.58 they lowered my neoral/cycosplorine, but my recent drug level  was at 469 for neoral and 12.0 for rapamune. so I don't think this round it has anything to do with that. and they would of called if they did. I want to stop worrying about everytime my cr level goes up but I don't like when it goes up to almost 1.6. My bun is 14 and all of my other labs came back fine but my phos is very low because they had to take me off the k-phos because my k was hi but I'm going to put that into another topic. Anyone else have cr level spikes post transplant? I'm drinking what I think is enough water but maybe not?

I've had post-tx cr spikes like you've described.  When they've occurred, my tx coordinator would call and verify that I took my meds at the appropriate time before the test.  I always did, so then she'd ask if I was feeling unwell in any way.  (I always felt fine.)  Then she'd tell me to push fluids and retest the following week, an my cr always went down by then.

I can certainly understand your worry, but I am thinking that your tx center hasn't called you because your other labs, especially your BUN, look fine.

I read somewhere that you should take your body weight in pounds, halve it, and that's how many ounces of fluid you should drink a day, minimum.  I try to drink half again as much.

Hope this helps.

Hi mm, thanks that does help! Yes and those other labs look fine. There was one time where I did take my meds 2 hrs before the test like I was suppose to but the person that was helping me fill out the signin sheet wrote the wrong time and as a result I had to weight forever for them to do my lab! So now I always verbally tell them. I will say because it is winter I have a hard time drinking fluids and I know I need to get better about that.
