I like songs with a good beat, or that can make me laugh.. another that I like is Dominated Love Slave by Green Day... that song is not for the faint of heart. *LOL*

Gosh, can't choose - I hate being indecisive! Depends on my mood, I guess: whether I need a calming pick-me-up, a soul soother or some dance music to get me busy. Where would we be without music?

Second movement of Beethoven's seventh - it can reduce me to tears every time.
This is indeed a beautiful piece of music, and is featured in the film "The King's Speech." The track is played in the lead-up to the climax of the film where King George VI prepares to address his people following the declaration of war on Germany in 1939. It's kind of ironic that this piece of music, which is used very effectively, was composed by a German. When it comes to this sort of music, I quite like Chopin Mazurka Opus 17 No. 4, from the "Empire of the Sun" soundtrack, which I consider to be one of Steven Spielberg's finest films.
In terms of pick me up songs that I like, "Reach," by Gloria Estefan comes to mind. "Fix You," by Coldplay is another. "Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own," by U2 is yet another. If I think about it long enough, I'll have assembled a soundtrack of my own...

Never Surrender - Corey Hart
When I first learned about my kidney disease a couple of years ago, I was spending time with my Grandmother because she was terminal with cancer. She was feisty at 90 years young. I was heading back to the hotel where I as staying after a rough day and this song came on the radio. I fell apart but was ultimately inspired by the song. There's two lines in the song that remind me how lucky I am to be part of this community because I know so many people face terrible roads alone.
And nobody wants to know you now
And nobody wants to show you how
I am so thankful to our IHD community for having been there for so many of us and having helped us by getting to know us and showing us how to live to the best possible lives we can.

Grateful Dead - Scarlet Begonias
As I was walkin round grosvenor square
Not a chill to the winter but a nip to the air,
From the other direction, she was calling my eye,
It could be an illusion, but I might as well try, might as well try.
She had rings on her fingers and bells on her shoes.
And I knew without askin she was into the blues.
She wore scarlet begonias tucked into her curls,
I knew right away she was not like other girls, other girls.
In the thick of the evening when the dealing got rough,
She was too pat to open and too cool to bluff.
As I picked up my matches and was closing the door,
I had one of those flashes I'd been there before, been there before.
Well, I aint always right but Ive never been wrong.
Seldom turns out the way it does in a song.
Once in a while you get shown the light
In the strangest of places if you look at it right.
Well there aint nothing wrong with the way she moves,
Scarlet begonias or a touch of the blues.
And there's nothing wrong with the look that's in her eyes,
Wind in the willows playin tea for two;
The sky was yellow and the sun was blue,
Strangers stoppin strangers just to shake their hand,
Everybodys playing in the heart of gold band, heart of gold band.

From the old days: Whammer Jammer/Hard Drivin' Man by J Geils Band.
I hated it when it came on the car stereo as I'd find myself speeding in time to the music.

From the old days: Whammer Jammer/Hard Drivin' Man by J Geils Band.
I hated it when it came on the car stereo as I'd find myself speeding in time to the music.
My mom does that with Turn Me Loose by Loverboy and Pretty Vegas by INXS.. they are her "fast drivin' songs" *L*

Stand Tall I love to listen to when I am at my lowest, it gives me strength to stand and fight.
BURTON CUMMINGS
"Stand Tall"
Never been this blue
Never knew the meaning of a heartache
But then again, I never lost at love before
Somewhere down the road
Maybe all those years will find some meaning
I just can't think about them now
Or live them out anymore
Stand tall, don't you fall
For God's sake don't go and do something foolish
All you're feeling right now is silly human pride
Oooooh, Stand tall, don't you fall
Don't you do something you might regret later
You're feelin' it like everyone, it's silly human pride
Never lasted so long, no,
Through so much or through so many
I just can't believe I could throw it all away
Sometimes late at night
When there's nothing here except my old piano
I'd almost give my hands to make you see my way
Stand tall, don't you fall
For God's sake don't go and do something foolish
All you're feeling right now is silly human pride
You've got me down on my knees for ya mama
Stand tall, don't you fall
Don't you do something you might regret later
You're feelin' it like everyone
It's silly human pride
Some Beach, when I am having a bad day and the tech's are on their high horses, this reminds me to get my mind else where.
BLAKE SHELTON LYRICS
"Some Beach"
Driving down the interstate
Running thirty minutes late
Singing Margaritaville and minding my own
Some foreign car driver dude with the road rage attitude
Pulled up beside me talking on his cell phone
He started yelling at me like I did something wrong
He flipped me the bird an' then he was gone
Some beach
Somewhere
There's a big umbrella casting shade over a empty chair
Palm trees are growing and a warm breezes a blowing
I picture myself right there
On Some beach, somewhere
I circled the parking lot trying to find a spot
Just big enough I could park my old truck
A man with a big cigar was getting into his car
I stopped and I waited for him to back up
From out of no where a Mercedes Benz
Came cruising up and whipped right in
Some beach
Somewhere
There's no where to go when you got all day to get there
There's cold margaritas and hot Senioritas smiling with long dark hair
On some beach
Somewhere
I sat in that waiting room
It seemed like all afternoon
The nurse finally said doc's ready for you
you're not gonna feel a thing we'll give you some novocain
That tooth will be fine in a minute or two
But he stuck that needle down deep in my gum
And he started drilling before I was numb
Some beach
Somewhere
There's a beautiful sunset burning up that atmosphere
There's music and dancing and lovers romancing
In the salty evening air
On some beach
Somewhere
On some beach, somewhere
When I am done with dialysis and walking out the door... It is not hard to have an attitude when you have to watch and put up with what goes on in our unit.
Take This Job and Shove It Lyrics
Take this job and shove it
I ain't workin' here no more
My woman done left and took all of the reasons
That I was workin' for
You better not try to stand in my way
When I'm walkin' out the door
Take this job and shove it
I ain't workin' here no more
Well, I've been working in this factory
Pretty close to 15 years
I've seen some of my best friends women
Drownin' in a pool of tears
I've seen a lot of kinfolks dyin'
I had a lot of bills to pay
Lord, I'd give the shirt right often my back
If I had the guts to say, say what?
Take this job and shove it
I ain't workin' here no more
My woman's done left and took all of the reasons
That I was workin' for
You better not try to stand in my way
When I'm walkin' out the door
Take this job and shove it
I ain't workin' here no more
The foreman is a regular S.O.B.
And the night boss, he's a fool
He got himself a brand new flattop haircut
Lord, he really thinks that's cool
One of these days I'm gonna blow my top
And that's shockin', he's gonna pay it
Well I can't wait to see their faces
When I get the nerve to say, say what?
Take this job and shove it
I ain't workin' here no more
My woman done left and took all of the reasons
That I was workin' for
You better not try to stand in my way
When I'm walkin' out the door
Take this job and shove it
I ain't workin' here no more
Take this job and shove it

Safe and Sound by Capital Cities
I could lift you up
I could show you what you wanna see
And take you where you wanna be
You could be my luck
Even if the sky is falling down
I'll know that we'll be safe and sound
We're safe and sound
I could fill your cup
You know my river won't evaporate
This world we still appreciate
You could be my luck
Even in a hurricane of frowns
I know that we'll be safe and sound
Safe and sound
We're safe and sound
Safe and sound
We're safe and sound
Hold your ground
We're safe and sound
Safe and sound
I could show you love
In a tidal wave of mystery
You'll still be standing next to me
You could be my luck
Even if we're six feet underground
I know that we'll be safe and sound
Safe and sound

Paco de Lucia Concierto Aranjuez - Adagio
Paco de Lucia was one of the best classical guitarists and very inspiring.
His tonality is breath-taking and awe-inspiring.
-
Fairly new song, I think...But my kids had me listen & all I could do was smile & dance along!!! HAPPY by Pharrell Williams (must admit this is not my usual taste)
-
Shayron1982 you beat me to it. "Happy" is so infectious. Love it. I just realized the other day after listening to some good songs how powerful music is as a mood lifter. I periodically have to remind myself to be sure to include music in my daily life.

Sun"
-
"I've Had It" by the Bell Notes. No, seriously. Makes me laugh. La la la la la la...
-
In dialysis I start singing to "We got to get out of this Place" by the Animals.
-
My favourite "pick-me-up" is the Bach-Busoni Chaconne played by Alicia de Larrocha in 1974: Chaconne in D Minor (Vinyl LP Recording) ...
To me this is the absolute interpretation of this wonderful piece of music.. she really says it all with the help of her piano
and what Bach-Busoni expressed in this piece of music and and Alicia de Larrocha interpreted,
could not be expressed any better by anyone else....
-
In dialysis I start singing to "We got to get out of this Place" by the Animals.
:rofl; Yup. Like the BTO song says, "Takin' Care of Business".
-
Second movement of Beethoven's seventh - it can reduce me to tears every time.
I am not surprised that this piece of music can reduce you to tears every time... you are not alone there ...
... Beethoven "pours out" his innermost private feelings in this particular piece of music and it is autobiographical...
... this piece also expresses Beethoven's vulnerability... and his oversensitivity...
... and in this particular piece he does not hide his vulnerability behind some bombastic demeanour (as he sometimes does),
... but he expresses his own vulnerability very sensitively in an understandable way...
