Title: Windows Vista and Nvidia Drivers ... please help as it's driving me crazy!
Post by: MattyBoy100 on February 22, 2007, 12:28:04 PM
I know some of you are gamers and can maybe help with a problem I am having with Vista and I presume the driver for my graphics card.  I cannot get Battlestations Midway to run without crashing after 10 secs of playing it.

I have an Nvidia Go 7900 GS graphics card and am using it on a new Toshiba P100 - 286 laptop.  I have tried to download drivers from Nvidia's website only to be told by the program that it doesn't recognize my hardware.  As you can all imagine, this is very frustrating as one of the reasons I bought my laptop was to play games on it.

It has an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 Gig Ram running at 2GHz so the spec is fine.  I have heard that there are problems with getting games to run on Vista and that Nvidia are coming out with new drivers at the end of Feb.  Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?  I have Emailed Nvidia and am waiting for a reply from them.

Apart from that, I am well impressed with Vista.  I know some people don't like Microsoft and are always out to get them but I really like this version of Windows (Home Premium).  The Media Centre is brilliant and great for watching DVD's whilst on dialysis.

Anyway, if anyone has a suggestion on how to get Battlestations Midway running, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Charee,

I have done more research on this matter and it says on Nvidia's website that there are no drivers for the GO range of graphics cards in Notebooks/laptops yet.

So anyone thinking about buying a laptop for games check the drivers are available for your graphics card first.  I guess, I will just have to wait for Nvidia to get their act together!

Hey Matty Looks like your right here is Todd's reply anyway. Good Luck

Hey Mum,

I had a look at his problem, I’m half having the same issue too. He will have to wait until Nvidia release the Windows Vista drivers (maybe less than a month) for his graphics card. If he really wants it now though, the only way he could play it is if he copied all his data off his laptop, and then installed Windows XP, but I don’t think he will want to as he will only need to reinstall Windows Vista in a couple of months anyway. If he has anymore questions, just give him my email

Thanks Charee,

I found a site called laptops2video.com and they say the have all the drivers (but unofficial) that will get round the problems Nvidia has with Vista.  But i don't like the sound of it and will wait for an official software release as I don't want to screw up my laptop.

Your son is right, I will have to wait cos I don't fancy installing XP on my laptop and then re-installing Vista again.  I can still surf the net, watch DVDs etc and pretty much do everything I want with Vista except play games.  I will be patient and wait but hopefully not for too long!

Thanks for contacting your son about this for me as I wasn't sure if it was me that was in the wrong!

A friend of mine says he had to buy a new printer because of the windows vista upgrade and the fax still is not working, all he can do for now is print. Anyone else have this problem with Vista?
