Title: slow doctors drive me crazy
Post by: sullidog on January 04, 2013, 09:03:45 AM
I wasn't sure where to put this, working while on dialysis just didn't seem the right place since I'm no longer on dialysis so feel free to move it.
Anyways, I love my doctors but when it comes to filling out medical papers for your employer, they are soooo slow! They don't seem to know how to meet deadlines, every doctor I've had and then my employer is on my back about it and it's like all I can do is talk to them, I did my part now they need to do theirs, I know they are busy but they need to be better about meeting deadlines, this goes for social workers and case workers too.

That's really frustrating.

In a related matter, I don't know what it is about nephrologists, but they are the absolute worst when it comes to being on time.

My post-transplant one used to be routinely an hour late for transplant clinic. Whenever I would see someone stalk up to the receptionist's desk and complain about things being late, I knew they had an appointment with her too. I put up with this doc for seven years. The worst was the one time when her office staff told her that there was no one left to see her so she went home while I was still waiting.

Now that I'm on dialysis and have been seeing a different nephrologist for the last year, I've decided that I've had enough of this bullshit. Earlier this month I had a 9:30am appointment with my nephrologist. At 10:45 I was done reading my book and told the receptionist that I had waited all that I was going to wait, and that I'd see the doctor next month. The doctor intercepted me as I left and I explained that I refuse to delay my CAPD nurse appointment any longer just for his redundant squeeze of my ankles and taking my blood pressure. And the next time the doc is more than an hour late, I'm walking out again. The third time it happens, I'm not coming back. I can get a new dialysis crew at a different hospital in this city.

I don't know if it's because they routinely hire bad staff, continually underestimate how long appointments take, or just assume that because I'm on dialysis that I don't work and consider it exciting to hang out in reception. I know that sometimes morning rounds go longer than expected and emergencies pop up, but if the office staff doesn't bother convey that things are running late, I'm not waiting.

sometimes what I do when I need forms filled out by someone, is fill out as much of the form as I can myself.  this way the doctor or whoever just has to sign it and fax it out.
