Title: New to IHD
Post by: tater on December 05, 2012, 06:05:58 PM
Good evening to all, and thank you for this website.
I am the wife of a dialysis patient.  My husband (Glenn) is 64, and has been on dialysis for a year now.  He started dialysis 12/7/11, and it's been a nighmare ever since.  He has polycystic kidney disease along with PTSD, neuropathy, and spinal stenosis.  My husband is a Vietnam vet.  We live in Lawrenceville, Georgia.  He has his dialysis at a Davita center that's about 7 miles from our home, that's great, but, whew................. the staff (except for his tech) are something else.  I guess we were very naive, but we NEVER thought dialysis and the industry as a whole would be this bad.  It's very frustrating for us-they don't listen.  Seems to me like they don't even care!
Thanks for being here.

Hi there. Welcome to the site. It doesn't sound like dialysis in your part of the world is much chop. I guess it's stories like yours that make me feel grateful that I'm going through this in a place where dialysis isn't so bad. It must be difficult to remain positive under such trying circumstances. What I do find comforting, as I'm sure you will, is that there are others just like you and I going through similar things. You'll find lots of support here. I've found a wealth of information on this site, to the point where nothing that doctors tell me comes as a surprise. Good luck.

Welcome, tater!      :welcomesign;

This sure is the site for information and support.  I hope your dialysis experiences improve with time.  Is your husband on the transplant list?

Hi Tater and welcome to IHD. I'm so glad you found us.  You learn to throw fits when things don't go right and as much as you hate to ..... do you sit right there for the 4 hours?

Come back and fill us in more.  I go to a DaVita too but before it was DaVita it was a number of different names.  I do like my current staff but have had to take drastic measures to get others to quit or fired.  Some people just should NOT be in the health care system.

Good luck, tater! I hope your husband gets a transplant soon. I feel the same way, that they don't truly care. It's all about the moolah and the superiority of putting us "on" jail.

Welcome Tater - At this site, you can find out anything and everything (good and bad) about dialysis.  And you can vent too.  Keep coming back and asking questions that the Dr or nurses won't answer.  Grumpy    PS is there a story behind the name Tater?  if so can you share

Being a vet, is he eligible for VA care. I really like the VA I go to here in Maine. It is not a for profit outfit and the nurses really care about you.

Welcome Tater.  Sorry you are having a hard time at the center.  My husband is the one doing D., but we choose to do it at home.  Just did not like the In-center experience.  Maybe you could look in to doing D at home.  We do hemo now, but we also did PD.  Look into it and other options available to you.  Just learn as much as you can about his disease.  No one else will.  In-centers do it because it is a job.  That is all it is to them.  They really care, but only to a point!!!!

Again welcome & God Bless,
