Hi just wanted to introduce myself. I am a student dietitian and I am interested to learn more about how renal patients cope with dialysis diet, daily life etc. And I am also interested in what you think of your healthcare and how I can learn from you how to be a better dietitian :)

Hi Orlmak, and welcome to IHD. Well, we all have dietitians on here. We need them to help us on our renal diet. I suggest you take a month, just one month, and follow it yourself so you have some idea how hard it is.
You can read lots and lots on here to help you become the best dietitian. Thank you for wanting to be that person.
Hope you come here often and also tell your patients about us.

Welcome Orlamk. Iam married to one who has this disease. I tried this Renal diet. It is not very good, so hubby and I do what makes us happy. We eat anything we want, but he is very good about moderation. His labs are great, plus, doing Hemo at home, less restrictions as to what he eats.
Hope you post often.
God Bless,

Oh yes, and I suggest that the month in question be a month that begins on Thanksgiving and ends around Christmas, just to make things harder. And make sure to pack your schedule full of events that focus on food with hosts that don't quite understand what the renal diet is or what it entails. Then add to the mix a bunch of relatives who tell you " just one little bite won't hurt". And make sure that you are working full time and block out time on your schedule where a dialysis patient would be dialyzing and possibly travelling to and from dialysis. I suggest about 16 hours a week. No and cooking or food shopping during those times. Also, no cheating and allowing a spouse, parent or roommate to food shop or cook either.
Then come back and tell me all about how to follow the renal diet.

don't complain about what we patients aren't doing right, then refuse to help us, rather tell us what we aren't doing and then help us with how to do better, I'm not saying you are going to be one of those, but I have had this problem in the past.

Welcome,
I think it is great you are here. Maybe your clients/patients will get better help than Ed (my husband) and I have.
I am pre-dialysis and Ed has been on for almost one year now. On top of that we have 4 wonderful children oldest 17 to 6.
When Ed went on dialysis we asked questions but the answers were not workable especially with our life.
Ed works 12 hour days, does PD, and helps raise our 4 kids. There is SO much more to his life than dialysis but his dietitian does not seem to care.
One thing I would say is look at the whole person not just that they are a dialysis patient.

Hello! I am new as well. I am lucky enough not to have to restrict food or water yet. I hope you do well @ your job. Both of the dietitians I have worked with sucked! They are not friendly and seem to just want to sit around and talk to the nurses. Be friendly to patients and take the time to honestly sit down and listen to them. Good luck!!!
