Title: Sleepyhead - introducing myself
Post by: Sleepyhead on November 22, 2012, 09:24:58 AM
Polycystic kidneys
Peritoneal dialysis 18 months (stopped because of pseudomonas infection - traced it back to sneezing dog - he had hay fever that year!)
Haemodialysis 3 1/2  years (satellite unit, TVs hanging from the rafters, all on different channels - very noisy - has put me off TV for life - well, except for Russell Howard's Good News and Inspector Montalbano)
Polycystic kidneys out - ouch!  They were huge and left a big scar inside and a nasty infection.  Didn't think I'd get through that one without some lasting damage but amazing what your body can bounce back from ....
Home haemo (4 X 4 hours a week) 4 months (I thought I'd be nervous but it went like a dream.  Couldn't believe I was actually at home doing dialysis on my own, with all my books and radio to hand and blissfully peaceful and quiet.  Felt so pleased with myself!)
Nocturnal haemo (4 x 8 hours a week) 8 weeks - I can't sleep!  Help! I'll put up a separate post.
Working 3 days a week
Hobbies - cycling, reading, listening to music, seeing my friends

Hi Sleepyhead, and welcome to IHD.  I'm so glad you found us.  This site is so awesome!  I'm glad you are home.  I do nocturnal in center.  Two of the loud guys just left and it is so much nicer.  I can sleep now.

Come post often!

:welcomesign; and nice to meet you 'sleepyhead'  ;D  Its so neat to see all the 'nocturnal' people commen around.  Something we think about but so far have not done.  Not ready for the battle w/center but in time  ;D  Hope someone will help ya with that sleepy stuff as i think that would be an issue here too.  He's just started sleeping through it but thats only 4 hours and he's done with sitten or sleeping.  Cant handle much more (although i look at him right now, after a 4 hour sit on machine and whats he doen?????  sitten watching game anyway..lo)

Thank you all for your good wishes and, yes Poppylicious, I am from the UK as you guessed.  I don't think Russell Howard has been exported yet!

Have to go into hospital today for an operation - not kidney-related - it always seems so unfair to get something else although, looking at this site, it is not so uncommon.

Back on line when I get out.

:waving;  Welcome Sleepyhead!  I hope your surgery and recovery go smoothly.  I know what you mean about having other medical things pop up, it makes me sad and a little angry at the cosmos when I read that one of my fellow IHDers is having another issue to deal with.
