Title: Hi. My name is Katie.
Post by: katieking1981 on November 08, 2012, 06:14:00 PM
My boyfriend John is a home hemo patient. I joined this board last year, but I hadn't posted until recently. Ive been in need of a support system and it looks like I found one   ;D.

His story is a little longer then mine. He is 33 and was both with biliary hyperplasia. He was a really sick kid until he got a liver transplant at 13. Then he was great for years until doctors discovered he had a toxicity to cyclosporine and his kidneys were failing. At 27 his dad gave him a kidney.

We were friends for 6 years. Then started dating almost 2 years ago right after my divorce. Shortly after we began dating,  we discovered that I was pregnant. (I also have an 8 year old daughter.) 9 weeks into my pregnancy, John became very sick and his kidney suddenly rejected. That was October 2011.

He needed do start dialysis for the 1st time in his life. We moved to home hemo in April. I gave birth to our son in May. Life is hectic with both of us working full time, 2 kids, and dialysis. I'm starting to hate dialysis even though I love that it keeps John alive.

I remember your other post where you talked more about the demands of his dialysis, your job, his job AND kids!  Your attitude toward dialysis (home hemo, right?) is pretty common...a love/hate sort of thing.

Yes, definately a love hate thing. But I'm really so happy to have a place where its ok to say that and have people understand.

Oh yeah, we understand.  No one LOVES dialysis.  We may love having it as a choice, but no one loves actually doing it.  I don't know anyone who thinks, "Oh boy!  Now I get to dialyze!  It doesn't get any better than this!  Yay!  I love labs, too!"

got to love LABS - I'm a hard stick and the norm for me is at least 3 tries.  Got to love LABS...    :clap;  Grumpy

Hi Katie and glad to see you post.  We all hate dialysis but hate the alternative worse.  You certainly have your hands full with 2 kids, a job and a home hemo patient.  Hats off to you for being willing to walk this path with your bf.   :grouphug;

Hi Katie, I'm glad you are posting.  It is good to talk about your feelings.  It would be good for John to come on here too.

Stay tuned to IHD.
