Mid 50s male, started PD 3 months ago. I'm glad I didn't read this board before starting, because the process to date (on Liberty cycler, 5 2000 ml exchanges/day) has been much easier than expected. My productivity at work was down for about 4 weeks due to all the training appointments, manual exchange schedule, etc. but I'm back to full time work as a corporate drone. Had my first 5 day trip (via domestic air) with the cycler, and am taking a couple more short ones with manual (business meetings where I can easily duck back to the hotel room to hang a bag).
I am confident my doc will help me get home hemo if PD stops working, so that keeps the worry down. Having a tube in the gut is a small price to pay to avoid a fistula (or two, or three, or four....)
I haven't been hit with depression or hopelessness yet, and am still dragging my feet on drafting that list of which of my toys to give to my various friends when I kick the bucket. Perhaps someday the enormity of how much this sucks will sink in and I'll head down a depressive spiral, but at present, life looks pretty good and my wife still yells at me to take out the garbage.

Oh Simon, what a delight you are. It is great that you can continue to work. I think it gives one some purpose in life. PD will work great for ya and if you have to go Home hemo, with your outlook, you will make it work for you too.
Welcome aboard, & God Bless,

Welcome Simon.
I've been on hemo for 17 months. I'm in the middle of transitioning to PD. I don't think how much dialysis sucks is going to abruptly descend on you. My goal is to be as active as you are. That would make me very happy. So if you aren't depressed, "Don't worry, be happy."

Hi Simon and welcome to IHD. I'm glad you found us. We are here for education and on days when you question things to come here and vent.
I'd say you are in the Honeymoon stage where you are just happy to be alive. That is a good place.
But, just know it is normal to become a little down now and then. Just say'in. It is normal.
Come here anytime. We welcome you.

welcome - I'm trying not to sound negative on your smiles and bright outlook. But, I felt that way when I first started D. I had the mind set that OK I'm on dialysis, no problem - life won't change. WRONG! your life and life style will change with D. And as said, there will be times when you are down (depressed) Some go down more than others, some take longer to get back up. But if you can keep the smile on your face, the downs won't be as bad. Please keep checking in on the site, post often. Become a member of the family and the most important part - try to make someone Else's life a bit better. This is the place to rant, rave, ask questions, give advice. Welcome Grumpy
