Hello all, my name is Bill, I'm 51 years old. I've been married to my wife Jerri for 25 years, we have 4 grown children. I've suffered 25 years of chronic kidney stones. The treatments have damaged the kidneys and ureters. In October 2006 they removed my left kidney. In December 2006 they reconstucted my right ureter, as of January 30, 2007 my kidney was at 18%. The doctors have told me to start making decisions because dialysis is coming in the very near future. So I'm here to learn and figure out which type of dialysis is best for me.
I would also like to thank my brother-in-law, EPOMAN, for all his information and advice.

Welcome to IHD Butch,
It pays to have an intelligent brother-in-law, at least you will gain your knowledge from the best.
There is a lot of free advice and many life times of experience within the IHD compound. ;)
It's great to have you here, and I hope you find everything you are looking for.
Here's a place you can start from: http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?board=34.0

Are you serious? Epoman is your brother-in-law and you are both named Bill?
If so it is good that Epoman has family that supports him! :) I know I really value when family is there for me!
This is a great place to learn about all types of dialysis, especially Hemo!

Holly SHIT! We have Epoman's brother-in-law here? I guess you are out as a possible donor!
I'm sorry you are suffering with kidney problems. I have never had stones, but I hear they are pure hell. Maybe you can hang on to your 18%. You can live fine on 18%.
You are also in good hands. Trust what Epoman tells you. He knows more than any Nephrologist I know of.
Feel free to ask questions. There is such a thing as a "stupid" question but we'll tell you if you ask one. :banghead;

Hey Butch,
Glad to see you made it. I know you must be worried and scared about what the future holds, but I'll tell you what, you are going to be fine. IHD(ihatedialysis) is an amazing place, had I had a resource like this when I first started, I would most likely not be in a wheelchair today or have episodes of A-FIB. Take a look around as we have a lot to offer and feel free to ask questions and get to know everyone. We have an AMAZING group of people here and understand that you are not facing this alone.
For anyone who is wondering "Butch"/ Bill is indeed my relative, he is my wife's (EpoWife) brother. He is a good guy and I hope you all don't hold it against him for being my relative. >:D
Welcome Butch, and read the rules, just because we are related doesn't mean you don't have to follow the rules. ;) ;D See the links in my signature lines and post a pic of yourself if you like in the members picture thread.

Welcome to our community, Bill! So glad you decided to join us. You can be assured that this website is going to be one of the important tools in your dealing with this renal challenge. Many of us can testify to that. And you are so fortunate to be connected to our own Epoman (I have to say that - he's my boss!) This site has been such a blessing to so many of us. I am sure there are some who are tired of hearing me say this, but I came upon this site just days before I started dialysis, and it was a major tool in helping me to understand what I was going through and in helping to cope with it. Knowlege is power, and that is what this site gave me.
More power to you, Bill (have to call you Bill III - we have so many of you around here!)

Hey Butch, Welcome to ihatedialysis.com. I am sorry you have come to this point but one thing that is comforting is that you know someone who is going through pretty much the same thing and he (along with us) can answer alot of questions you may have. If i may, i would like to suggest going with PD, although you will have restrictions, they are not AS strict as if you were on Hemo. I know it can all be overwhelming and you may not know where to start, or what to say, BUT, if there is ever anything you need, please do not hesitate to ask, any one of us will be more than happy to help you find what it is you are looking for. :2thumbsup; Take care and keep us posted on what you decide, k. Looking forward to hearing more from you :grouphug;
