Title: Hello
Post by: juju75 on October 10, 2012, 03:37:54 PM
Hi there
My partner of 17 years is about to start home peritoneal dialysis.
We are keen travellers and have done a bit of travelling so far, but it was our intention to do a lot more!  He will go on the waiting list for a donated kidney as soon as the dialysis starts and I am hoping we can start to travel again (obviously within reason)!!
I look forward to getting to know some of you in similar situations on this forum.

Hi there. I too am a keen traveller. I've covered most of Europe, south-east Asia and bits of the Middle East. Dialysis has put the brakes on for now. I'm going to give myself some time to enjoy life at home for a while whilst getting used to life on the big D. I hope to do a little travelling whist on dialysis, to New Zealand and possibly the Philippines, and maybe Canada at a stretch. There is no reason why you can't either. Time is on our side! Welcome to the site. Good luck with everything.

Welcome, Juju.      :welcomesign;

PD is a good choice for travelling.  It's quite portable, although I haven't tried travelling with it yet.

Hi JuJu, he can get on the waiting list before dialysis starts.  Don't let them feed you that BS.  Go in there and get the workup done.

Thanks for joining.

Hello,
I agree with rerun get on the wait list now. Ed and I got on the list about a year ago, both of us were pre-dialysis at the time. Our hospital has a 6 year wait list.

I think of the choices PD will work well for you two.

Juju75  I'm on PD (almost 3 years) and do a lot of traveling.  I'm a biker and take 2 day weekend trips as much as I can.  I also travel for work and play (week + trips)  It isn't a problem when doing PD.  Just needs a bit of planning.  For the longer trips I will have the supplies sent to the hotel where I'll be staying.  So far no hotels have had any issues with that.    You don't say what type of PD he will be on.  Using a cycler or just manuals.  I do both.  Will take the cycler with me on longer trips but have done all manuals at times too.  But doing manuals in the middle of the night is a pain - just get to sleep and you are back up again doing another exchange.  Don't let PD stop you guys from traveling.  Just remember it take a bit more planning ahead of time to get it done.  Grumpy

Hi JuJu :) I am also in Australia,  in Perth, where abouts are you ?  Welcome to IHD.

Rerun, as far as I know we in Australia can't get on the list until we have started dialysis :(
