Hi, I'm bluedove57 and new to the message board. I'm a dialysis patient for the past 5 and 3/4 years. My kidney failure happened after I had a 24 hour virius. This flu went to my kidneys and shut them both down. I'm other wise totally healthy. My body is not dialysis friendly because I have low blood pressure. I'm on the transplant list now for the past 5 years. I have 100% antibodies which makes it hard to match a kidney. At our dialysis unit, we are a family. Our staff is wonderful and I'm grateful to be there. Right now I have a donar who is being checked out to see if she is compatible for a transplant. We should know something in the next 3 to 4 weeks. I have 2 children, 19 and 24. My youngest is expecting her first child on the 23rd of Feb. Her husband is being shipped out to Iraq on the 26th of Feb. She may be alone to have her child and I have never felt so helpless. I'm trying to raise money to go see her in North Carolina. My small disability doesn't allow me to save much. I live in Maine. I've placed this situation in God's hands to make a way for me to get to her. There is a clinic down the street from where she lives so dialysis is possible. I know you all understand this feeling of helplessness. You've all been there. I just heard about this message board and wanted to let you all know I understand how you all feel. All I know is God is good and He has kept me going and given me the strength not to give up. When I had kidney failure, one month later my husband committed suicide because he couldn't handle what I would have to go through. Once again God kept me sane and gave me the will to go on. These last years have been rough but I have two beautiful daughters that make me want to fight. I'm 49 years young and still have it all together. I pray you all can make the best of our situation. It feels good to post something to this board knowing I'm not alone facing kidney failure.

Welcome bluedove57 to IHD.
I hope you get your transplant soon. I'm also glad to hear you get along with your dialysis centers staff, unfortunately that is not very common.
I'm glad you found us because we are like family also here at IHD.
This is an awesome support group, so I hope you take advantage of that and join us in the chatroom occasionally.
Another site that is a part of the IHD family of sites is Renal Romance, check out renal romance here > www.renalromance.com
I will be looking forward to your posts.

Wow bluedove57! You have been through a LOT! I too know that feeling of helplessness and pray to God all the time to make a way (future marriage, a way to save money, get a car, if I will be able to have children, etc etc) but you have had bigger trials to go through and have made it step by step! I admire your perseverance!
I am glad you are here and already see you as a source of inspiration! :2thumbsup; :welcomesign;

Im so sorry about your losses. I am new to dialysis but I can tell you that NxStage makes it possible to travel anywhere, I'm actually trying to create a generator to run mine in the woods so I can still go backpacking. I really think you should see about getting your own machine, than travel won't be an issue at all for you. Good luck with transplant, I hope all goes well for you.

Hi bluedove57 and welcome to our site. You have a living donor, so do let them tell you that your antigens are too high and you are a positive crossmatch (which is considered bad). They are trying new things all the time. Read JillD's story:

I didn't know about this and let my donor go and she donated to a complete stranger. I should have received points for that too but didn't.
It sounds like you have been through a lot. I'm sorry for your pain. I hope this website makes you smile.

What is NxStage? Is it home dialysis. I was given a chance at home hemodialysis but can't begin to imagine sticking my self 12 time a week and dializing 3 hours 6 days a week. I'm to active to be tied down like that. I'd rather get treatment 3 times a week at the clinic and have the rest of the day to myself. Traveling with all the equipment seems like it ties you down. Give me info on this NxStage is you can. Thanks
