Title: Tribute for DWCrawford
Post by: willowtreewren on October 07, 2012, 04:36:23 PM
Dan was my friend. He made me laugh, snort and cheer. He was the quintessential curmudgeon. I loved him dearly.

He had a rough go of it the past few months, in and out of the hospital. He worried about his little dog Romeo who had lifted him into a caregiver's position and filled his life with love and aggravation.

Many folks had a hard time understanding Dan's humor. That is too bad, because behind that rough surface was a heart of gold and a true friend. He was a rock for many of the members here (you know who you are, and like me you are probably crying).

He died yesterday. A card I had ready to send him is sitting next to me, stamped but unmailed. I find it hard to really comprehend that I will not hear his voice again, not share chats, jokes, and support. Every time I see that card I tear up. I'm keeping it for you, Danny boy. You old donkey. I didn't get to talk with you much these last months since I couldn't talk well. And then you got too weak to talk. Regrets.....

I can only find comfort in knowing that you are no longer suffering.

I hate kidney disease.

Aleta

That's a lovely tribute Aleta.  I too will miss Dan and despite the outward prickliness  that could take a bit of effort to get past he was worth the trouble.  We had our little word duels (privately) and he could be stubborn for sure but he was a good friend to many.  RIP Dan...Romeo will miss him and so will many people too.

Amen to that, Aleta...

When they made our Danny Boy, they broke the mould...

A little effort to get past his prickly exterior revealed a heart of true gold... Tenacious in his loyalty, and a true joy to know...

The world has lost one of it's few, true, gentlemen...

I'm very proud to call Dan my friend, but more than that, I proud that he called me HIS friend...

Sleep well Danny Boy... And it's not 'Goodbye'... Just 'Cheerio' until we meet again...

Darth....

Ah, so sad, but no more pain and no more depression for dear Mr. Crawford. He was quite the character indeed. I think he would smile to see himself described as 'prickly' by his friends. That's true love there, seeing a person for exactly who he was and adoring him through the hard times as much as the good days. My deepest condolences to all the lovely people shedding tears tonight in Texas, Tennessee, Ireland, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, and everywhere else where Dan's absence will be felt.

Farewell, Dan.  :-*

Dan Crawford was my friend.  I had the good fortune to meet him on this board when my husband was told he was going to have to start dialysis.  He took away some of the fear I had and he helped to encourage my husband during the tough times, and he was there for me when my husband passed away.  Yes, he could sometimes be prickly, but he had a heart of gold underneath.  I had the opportunity to visit with him several times when he was in the hospital these last few months and I got to know him well.  I will treasure those times and will miss him greatly...

I am so sorry to hear this.  I thought that he was doing well since he was preparing to switch to nocturnal. What a shame

Rerun...

Thankfully Romeo got a very good home... Dan's Home Healthcare Assistant had a good friend who was looking for a dog, and she got to know Romeo well during Dan's recent illness... She has kindly adopted him, and I understand the pooch is fine...

Dan was certainly one of a kind. My caring thoughts are with his loved one and those who are hurt by his passing.

I still have a huge ache from the hole in my heart where Dan lived.

I doubt I will ever stop missing him.

Had a good cry today....

Had the smutt's hair cut, and Dan and I used to have great laughter about Romeo hating having a bath, or a visit to the groomer... Romeo HATED it!...

REALLY miss Dan... Always will...

Love you, Dan.... NEVER to be forgotten!...
