Title: I Hate Dialysis
Post by: Mike Maloney on September 25, 2012, 07:11:05 PM: I am 58 years old. I have been on dialysis since January. Am doing home hemo with my wife now for about 3 or 4 months. Home hemo make it a little better, but I just hate having to use up 4 or so hours 5 days a week. I am on the transplant list. Hope to get a kidney soon, but they say the wait for someone in my category is 3 to 5 years.

Post by: marje on October 21, 2012, 10:28:13 AM: I hate dialysis but if you have to dialyse - home nocturnal hemodialysis is definitely the way to go. When doing 3 day a week hemodialysis in centre I always felt knackered afterwards. I quickly learned how to set up my machine and needle myself and after a few weeks in centre got my machine at home. Did 5 days a week for 2 1/2 hours each day at a time that suited me but found out about nocturnal dialysis and my hospital, being very keen to help patients, taught me about nocturnal hemodialysis. I have been doing the single needle for nine months now and will hopefully be continuing nocturnal on two needles until I get another transplant (always look on the bright side of life!).

Hi Mike, Welcome to IHD! This site has a ton of useful information and great people!
I was wondering, you said the wait for someone in your category is 3-5 years. What is your category?
