My name is Amy and I live near Ft Worth, Texas. My husband (James) was dx with ESRD in Feb of 2006. In May he started Hemo dialysis in center. It has been a long year, we have 3 kids, 11 year old twins and a 3 year old. He has not been able to work since Feb '06. Just recently I found places like this were everyone is going through the same thing and it is very nice to talk to someone and them not look at you like your crazy.
Thanks for listening,
Amy

Welcome to IHD Amy,
Thanks for taking an interest in IHD. A good place for you to begin would be in our Spouse and caregiver section,
here is the link >http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?board=33.0
Trust me you are not crazy, you have been drafted into the caregiver role, it takes a special person to be able to handle all this and you will do fine.
Check back often, we are here for people like you and if you need anything, feel free to ask.

Hi - my husband is the one on dialysis also-you will find a lot of understanding here. You will also find a lot of information here-most specifically there is a diet area that people post some great websites that help with compliance if your the person figuring it all out-my husband was too sick at first to try to figure out what he could and couldn't have. I have gotten a lot of really good cooking tips on the renal diet here. (Plus every other question we had) :welcomesign;

:welcomesign; Amy, you and your husband will find a lot of useful info in this site and if you or your hubby ever want to rant about anything n everything this is the right place to do it. where is your husband going to dialysis at, the hospital or a clinic?

He goes to a clinic, but I am just learning about in home dialysis and it sounds great.

:welcomesign; Hubby is the one on dialysis . Has been for 10 years now. Not all smooth sailing but it hasn't been too bad. This site is wonderful!

Welcome to our caring community. We are particularly glad to have you with us. It is always nice to see spouses, caregivers and loved ones taking the time out to join us. There is so much here that will help. If nothing else, it is a place to vent when you need to, and to know that people totally understand what you are going through. Please keep posting. Let us know what is going on with your husband. Ask questions. We even have an Off-Topic section where you can forget about dialysis for a while.
Looking forward to hearing more from you.
Here is a group hug for you and your husband (and the kids!) :grouphug;

Amy,
Have you and your husband considered the NxStage Home Hemo Dialysis machine?
I think it would make your lives with dialysis much much easier and traveling with this machine is great! It only requires a plug and a drain. Everything is disposable and you won't have to spend your life in a clinic every week. NxStage can give you your liives back, please look into it, I know you'll be glad u did.
