Title: UTI'S or cystitis
Post by: billybags on August 20, 2012, 05:22:24 AM
How many of you on PD suffer with cystitis?  Hubby does not pee, he dribbles now and again, but in the last 3 weeks he has had "so the GP says" two bouts of cystitis, blood in his urine. he is now on his 2nd course of antibiotics. He has never suffered with this before. Trying to get an appointment with the urologist, I suppose we will be waiting a while.

Me too!

For the last two years I have six UTI's each year, so this year I am on a constant low dosage of two antibiotics alternated month and month about. This dosage is supposed to stop at the end of this month (after 4 months).  I would have had about three UTI's in the previous 60 years of my life.

I hate to think what it will be like when I stop peeing.  How do you recognise it then.  My recent episodes are only discovered by urine samples.

?? Too much information??

Hi MaryD --    what low dose antibiotics are you on ?    My hubby has bi-lateral ureter stents that are changed every 3 months -  but within a month he has a nasty infection, and suffers a lot.   Its ironically gotten a lot worse since we are doing NxStage 5 days a week at home.  Its like the extra dialysis is cleaning out whatever he has in his blood to fight them off ---   the doctors haven't been much help ...

Lindia

I'm on Alphamox 250mg one month and then Cephalexin 250mg the next month.  Alternating them is supposed to prevent whatever the bug is from working up a resistance.

Well half way through the second lot of Cephalexin 250mg, he stopped taking them. He said he was fed up of having to go to the loo, they gave him ups diarrhea  he is a man. Our nurse came last week and told him to stop taking Fusimide, he has been taking this for quite a while and do you know what, he feels tons better. We reckon it could have been this water tablet that has been causing the problems. Why take water tablets when you do not pee!   So fingers crossed.
