Title: M -W- F or T -T-S ??????????????
Post by: Wat76 on August 08, 2012, 08:43:19 AM
For those who does In Center Hemo and still work full time, Which schedule are you finding more convenient. The morning or evening shift.  I am doing D on T, T and Sat and I drive an hour to D.  I am okay driving back home on Sat, but once I get in the door, I am completely wore out.  On Tue and Thurs Igo to work after D and sit at my desk starring trying to stay awake and function.  I discover a secret yesterday, I went and got a cup of coffee and boy did I perk right up.  Cant wait to try this on Thursday and see how I feel.  I want to switch to the evening shift, M-W-F evenings and have my weekend free.  What do you find best.

My Blokey went straight to haemoD from work (full-time, weekdays) on MWF evenings.  It meant that weekends were his, with no faffing about with arranging weekends around dialysis.  It did also mean that he was VERY tired by the time he came in the door at about eleven on Friday nights, but he was able to have two long lie-ins (until I got bored and made him get up!) over the w/end.  It was better for him to have two full days free of haemoD than three evenings because the two evenings he had free were wasted, due to tiredness and having no motivation.

I did T-Th-Sat third shift when I was in-center.  I would leave work at 2:30 PM, get to the center at 3:00, get hooked up by 3:30 and get done at 7:00.  I would be home by 7:30 or so.  On Saturdays, I would usually start a little earlier so I could get done a little earlier.

All I can say is it sucked big time and I hated it.  Now I do home hemo and my life is so much better.

My husband is on the T-T-S because of when he ended up on hemodialysis. He is still working and goes to work in the middle of the night to be at the center by 11am on week days. They don't have any treatment after that, and no night service. They started calling early every Sat morning to see if he wanted to come in early (they get everyone done, the staff can leave early) which means he can't sleep any later then either. It sucks, he is in bed by 6pm most the time. If he has his work done at the training center at the Nucelar Plant early enough, he goes over to dialysis early as well. The center is small and usually has a chair open for him. Apparently they have trouble getting people to come in for treatment or to stay the full time in our area.

When I was lucky enough to be doing dialysis (ha!) I found T-T-S afternoon shift (we only had morning/afternoon) worked best for me - it gave me max time at work (since only 2 afternoons a week were taken vs 3) - and I could work the mornings of the other two days, then leave for d lunchtime, do my 5 hours of D and then get home around 6-6:30 - dinner, feed cat, relax.

I guess everyone's different in what works for them - some do not like their weekend(sa/sun) disrupted by D which also makes sense - I had no life anyway so I could get upset by my football team losing just as easily sitting at D as at home!  :rofl;
