Hi guys,
I haven't posted in a while. Sorry, but things have been awful here. My 18 year old autistic son has been diagnosed with cancer. :( He had a tumour removed on the 5th of Jan and has had one cycle of chemo. He still needs to have 2 cycles. This is the hardest thing I have ever gone through. Here is a photo of Christopher with his sister Amy. As you can see he is losing his hair. It will probably be gone by the end of the weekend. He isn't going to school but will return once he is better. I took myself of the transplant list as I don't think I could cope with a transplant while he is undergoing chemo. Say a prayer for my son guys and hope to post again soon. Liz :'(

:( We have missed you, Liz! Certainly wishing for the best outcome for Christopher, what a handsome , happy-looking young man! ( I shaved my sister's head [both times] when she was going through chemo. as it began falling out. Hoping for the best for all of you. Keep your chin up... :grouphug;

Hi Liz, What awesome kids!! God bless you and your family today, tomorrow and forever... We are here for you :grouphug;
-
I'm sorry to hear this, and I will keep you and your family in my thoughts. He's lucky to have you as his mom. :cuddle;
-
I will keep you, your family, and especially your son in my thoughts during this difficult time.
If you don't mind my asking (if you do, simply ignore the question and accept my apology), what kind of cancer does he have? Medicine has made huge progress in the treatment of various cancers, especially those that affect primarily the young. No matter what, having this diagnosis and undergoing the treatment is difficult, for the patient and the family (especially when it's your child).
Best wishes,
DeLana :grouphug;

Hi everyone,
:thx; for your prayers and good wishes. Everything is going well. Christopher is back in hospital for the week, starting his second cycle. He seems to be coping well. He has now lost all of his hair. You know I really was angry with god or whatever the heck is up there and blamed 'it' for everything going on. I was wondering why it had to be Christopher when is disabled, it just seemed so unfair. Anyway I have come to terms with everything and back on speaking terms again. Anyways will post again next week. Here is a photo of me and Christopher taken on Saturday. The other photo is of Christopher at chemotherapy yesterday. Take care all. Liz
-
Thanks for the update, cant help but to notice Christopher's big smile! God bless each and everyone of you, and prayers are with all of you.
-
:cuddle; I wish your son and your whole family all the best. Autism is hard enough he shouldn't have to deal with this also. :grouphug;
-
What a great smile Christopher has! My prayers are still coming your way!
-
Keep on smiling Christopher, I don't know how you do it, but keep doing it, OK :angel;
-
Liz I have been thinking of you and your family. Here is a hug for you today and always!
:cuddle; :grouphug;
-
more :grouphug; hope you get a collection of them ! :cuddle;
-
Love Christopher's smile...I've been keeping him in my thoughts and prayers every night. I will pray that the next round kills lots of bad cells without making him feel too bad!
-
Wow..mom...your plate is so full! Thank you for sharing your beautiful family with us, it is so nice to picture his smiling face while I say my prayers. :cuddle; :cuddle;
-
I know it is a rough ride for you now. Best wishes and kishes go out to you and your family!
-
I hope he continues to do so well and is able to keep smiling throughout the treatment. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and wish you the very best,
DeLana :grouphug;

What a handsome cheerful young man! My caring thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. It's okay to rage a bit. But it is wonderful when you come to terms with the situation and start making the best of it. Looking forward to being kept up to date with his progress. The name Christopher is a very special one in my family. I will be remembering him.

Hi Liz "babi68"
I had not replied to this thread because I didn't know what to say. This is so gut-wrenching for me, it makes me worry at every little cough EpoKid has and I do not know how you do it, you are a brave woman and I admire you and your courage. Your son is very strong as we all can see by him smiling while lying in his hospital bed. I wish you and your son the best.

Has anyone heard anything from Liz? Just so she knows we are thinking of her and her son and our prayers are with her ;)
-
:cuddle; you are in my prayers, can't you put yourself on hold for the list so you don't lose your wait time? take care
-
Hey hun, lola makes an excellent point. You should remain on the transplant list, just tell your transplant coordinator you want to go "inactive", that way you won't get any kidney but you will maintain and still continue to add up time on the list. If you chose to go "active" again in 2 years, you would have all that wait time factored in and it would only help you in he end get a kidney faster. :twocents;
Hope all if well with your son. :grouphug;

Hi everyone,
Just a quick update on Christopher. He has finished his chemo for the moment and today is his first day back at school. :clap; He seems to be very excited. I know I am. He has been off school for 4 months and is so ready to go back. He had a CT scan yesterday and we will find out next Monday 7th if he needs more surgery and more chemo. I really hope and pray that everything will be o.k. Also I am back on the list. Put myself back on about 3 weeks ago. Thanks everyone for your prayers. Better go and pack his bag......Liz :waving;
-

Thanks everyone,
The last round of chemo was really hard on Christopher. He was vomiting blood and was in hospital for 9 days. It really scared him alot and he didn't really understand what was happening. As he was getting on the bus this morning he looked at me and said " no more chemo, no more vomiting blood". and I told him he did real good and should be proud of himself. And with that he gave me a huge smile and got on his bus. He seems to have matured, I mean he is still autistic and quiet, but sometimes he can seem so "normal". I came inside after he left and cried my eyes out. These last few months have been awful. Everyone is very stressed and I am surprised my marriage is still somewhat together. Well sort of. AHH we all need a holiday. Maybe one day we will come to the states to a IHD meeting. Update next week. Liz :beer1;
-
:grouphug; I am so glad Christopher is getting back on track. I hope he had a great day at school. :cuddle;
*You don't have to go to the states... come to Melbourne and have lunch with Tamara and I. ;)
-
Good to hear Christopher is doing ok. I hope you get a chance for a holiday, to sort things out.

It's ok to cry Babi,
Especially after all you have been through. I am so glad Christopher is doing well.
I believe the Australian members are planning a Aussie get together. I don't know what part of the country your from but maybe you all can link up.

Well everyone, great news. Christopher doesn't need any more chemo or surgery at the moment. We saw the oncologist and she said his node was still large but the cells in it were dead. We need to take him for another ct scan in 3 months time to see if it has shrunk any more, and if it hasn't we may need to see a surgeon, but the oncologist said not to worry about him anymore as he is cancer free :clap; His hair is starting to grow back now. Life is somewhat normal again. Tomorrow I start training for nocturnal, so that is my next stressball. Thanks everyone for all your prayers as they have been answered. And a big thankyou to my sister Maria, who was always there ready to listen to me and talk when I needed it all the most. Congratulations Grandma. (will be posting pictures later when Amy comes home)... Thanks everyone. Liz :cuddle; p.s. Sluff , I still cry when I think of how lucky I am to have my son.

Well guys. Here I am again. We have had alot going on here the last few weeks. After I posted that everything was o.k. well it wasn't. We got a call from Christophers oncologist and she said we need to see the surgeon. Well our happiness only lasted about 2 weeks and it was decided Christopher needed major surgery to remove his lymph nodes down in his groin area. Christopher wasn't told until 2 days before the surgery as he gets very stressed about it all. So 3 weeks ago he went in and had everything he needed to get out, taken out. He was on morphine for 3 days so high as a kite, and didn't really understand what was going on. Well he did remarkably well. He got up and walked when he was told to and really made us so proud. For an autistic person he was amazing. Stephen stayed 2 nights and I stayed the others. Of course as this was going on with Christopher I have been learning nocturnal and when he was in hospital I did my overnight stays. I came home with the machine and he came home to recover. He is doing really well and will be back at school on Monday. Nocturnal is going well also. Things are going quite well. The good news is he is DEFINITELY over the worst and been told the tumours they just removed were benign, so no more chemo..... Finally the nightmare is over. :yahoo; I got the oncologist registrar to name my machine for me and for some reason he named it ' Murphy Brown', so now I have Murphy sleeping with me most nights. Thankyou everyone for all your thoughts and prayers and now will be able to catch up with everyone and read what has been happening. Bout to get on so will read up tomorrow. Thanks all. Liz :clap; :2thumbsup; :yahoo; :bandance; ;D :cuddle; :beer1; :thumbup; :wine; :-* :ausflag;

Babi, I'll certainly keep you and your family in my prayers.

Good news for Chris hope your family can get back to some kind normalcy. :thumbup;
-
Babi, that is mixed news! I'm glad it all turned out well though! I'm glad they kept Chris on morphine, I'm sure that kept his stress levels down, poor guy!! The aspect of another surgery, ugh, that's enough for anyone to just think of running away!! I'm glad it's REALLY better now!! :2thumbsup;
-
Wow, that all had to be so stressful.
Sorry Chris had to have surgery. He sounds like a real trooper.
So glad the everything was benign and no more chemo is needed.
Good luck on the nocturnal.
Will keep you all in prayer.
