We might be going camping this weekend and what I am wondering is if its safe to hook my cycler up to an extension coord attached to an electrical outlet and do dialysis while sleeping? I know people have done hemo/nxstage while camping and that manual exchanges would be possible while tent camping... but what about the cycler? I just want to make sure it would be safe and I can't find any info. I think my nurse at the PD clinic told me once it couldn't be done, but... I don't see why not.

I put this in the wrong section, hope a mod can move it for me. Sorry!

It's not in the wrong section. I have seen machines hooked up to extension cords at my clinic. Mayhaps if you use a heavy duty cord you would be alright. That's just my opinion.

Yes,you would need to have an extension cord with the right power rating.

I use an ac extention cord on my machine all the time.

I used an extension cord on mine but I bought the heavy duty kind not the regular thin ones.

With a heavy duty extension cord, you should be fine. Will you be connecting to regulated power or are you connecting to a generator? If a generator, you will want to have a surge suppressor between the generator and your cycler to smooth out the power surges you see with a generator.

Thanks all, good to know it would work with just a good extension coord and yes I was planning on hooking up to regular electricity not to a generator.
Although my Dr just removed me off PD again yesterday as my latest xray shows fluid under the right lung again, so... I won't be doing PD while camping, but I do have hemo scheduled saturday which I can't do since I'll be gone... so now I have to figure that out, lol.

When you do go back on pd and want to go camping get a heavy duty appliance cord, suitable for a refrigerator or freezer. But you can only put on about a 10 footer without risking damage to your cycler.

I use a heavy duty extenstion cord all summer everyweekend when we are camping and works fine. :clap;
