This is a good opportunity to engage in 'patient centered' outcomes research. The work is paid.
PCORI was created as part of the Affordable Care Act. Their first round of grants are being submitted this month. I think being a reviewer (if you are selected) would be a way to engage with patient communities outside our CKD world.
"Interested individuals can apply to be a reviewer through PCORI’s website, pcori.org (http://www.pcori.org/get-involved/call-for-reviewers/). The deadline to apply is noon Eastern Time on October 26."
What do you think? I went ahead and applied. I think it would be interesting to read what other areas of medicine are studying and look for examples of what the hell 'patient centered' means. Maybe find something to apply to the provision of dialysis.
