My parents have been here visiting for three weeks. I took them to the train yesterday afternoon and the house feels so quiet now. It took a few days to adapt to having extra people in the house, now I imagine it'll take a few days to get used to having the house to myself again. My dachshund had adopted them as soon as they walked in the door and followed her "grandpa" everwhere he went and slept with them from the day they arrived. It makes me saddest that I wonder if she misses them. She still slept in ther bed instead of mine last night. I always wonder when I see my parents if there'll be a "next time." They're 80 years old. Thankfully still in good health, but I know that can change in an instant so I worry.

:'( Awwww I hate it when people leave me. I'm fine if I'm the one leaving. It is that homesick feeling in my heart. Try and do something for yourself. Go shopping!
Hold your puppy on your lap for a little while this morning.

How nice you were able to spend so much time together. My mom is 76 and can barely walk. I am taking her to Idaho to visit family. I wish she could do more but having any time together is special.
I am with Rerun - go shopping.
Or call a friend and make a movie date.
Plant sunflowers.
LOL these are things on my list!

I agree...do something nice for yourself to fill that hole in your heart.
When I lived in the UK, I spent a LOT of time on airplanes, coming home to visit my parents. Having to return to England after each visit was always a wrenching experience. My father hated those airport waits, so he never accompanied me to the airport, and he'd wave goodbye as my mom drove me out of the driveway. I always wondered if this would be the last time I saw him.
On his 70th birthday, I secretly flew in to see him. Boy, was he shocked, and to this day, I am so glad I made the effort. My mom had conniptions trying to keep THAT secret from him since she had to come get me at the airport and my flight was delayed; she called him to tell him that she'd be late getting home because there was a sale at some store. LOL!
I hope you have many years left with your parents. :cuddle;

I knew I wasn't doing myself any good sitting on the couch, so I took your advice and went shopping and out for lunch. I ended up at the garden center where I remembered I had 50% off coupons so I got a couple of houseplants and some flea killer to use on the yard. As soon as I finish a transcription I'm doing for a friend I'm going to reward myself with a new art project, too. That'll keep me busy. ;D

I say, if possible, give them a call. Tell them you miss them and love them. Just shoot the breeze. It helps me to know they are only a phone call away. The phone can help ease a bit of the loneliness. Shopping is probable the most fun therapy though. :)

Oy, I hear you.
I moved out on my own. And it's terrifying. Sure, some days it can be nice. (Mostly in the summer it was nice) But It's so quite and it's just me and my kitty. My boyfriend visits/stays frequently. But still, I'm usually the one left eating alone, cleaning... and it just gets super lonely. One time I woke up, and was asking my dad what's for dinner. Then it hit me. I'm twenty three. I live alone, I'm going to have to make my own dinner. ???
Recently, I've been bad, and I spent like two weeks at the boyfriends house. I do this when my place gets too overwhelming/I don't feel great.
Anyways, I agree with others. My cat is super cuddly, so I hang out with her. I frequently invite friends over, My parents work/live not too far away from me. So, I invite them for dinner. Same goes for the boyfriend. I go out, explore. Go to a bookstore, cafe. Little shops.
Also, I'm a total window shopper, which makes internet shopping even more fun. And if I can afford it, I totally buy something. Look at interesting websites. Talk to friends. Text/IMing. Wiki or Youtube Role! (You look something up, then you follow the video it advises next/read whatever it links you to).
Sometimes, I throw myself a "Date". I make myself a nice meal. I pick a movie/show I want to watch. Take a bath. Read, draw. (play video games) Do whatever I want to do. Basically, "me time".
