How low was your GFR when you started PD willing , not as an emergency?? Getting catheter next week.
-
Sorry, I wasn't willing. I woke up from my coma on HD, later switched to PD. I was pissed to say the least.
-
Mine was bouncing around between 9 and 13.
-
14, dropped from 30 six months earlier. The writing was on the wall and I wanted to get started on dialysis AND get listed before I got in real bad shape.
I'll tell you I felt better physically before I started PD but mentally I was slipping away (i.e poor concentration, forgetfulness, mistakes at work). Now I'm tired but my head is clear and the PD dietary restrictions are much easier to tolerate than the CKD diet was.
-
Thank you Mine are 10. Also foggy head. Did not even think about dietary restrictions.
-
I have temporarily come off PD (peritonitis). Last PD drain was Thursday 5am. Sunday morning foggy thinking is back.
When I started PD foggy thinking disappeared on day four. Blood tests results were not greatly different to before PD results. So I wonder it the foggy thinking is caused by something which is not measured by the usual tests

Mine was 8 when I started PD.

Travbug, I went from a 1 oz. per day protein restriction to a target of 10 oz. minimum per day. My neph says I can't eat enough protein to suit him. However, triglycerides can get out of hand quickly.
-
This will be interesting because I also eat very little protein and would have a hard time eating more right away.
-
My husbands GFR was 8 and he felt well, but our neph said he liked to put his patients on dialysis when they did feel OK because they took to it better. I believe he was right.
-
That is exactly what my neph said also.
-
I am thinking the lower gfr is when starting PD - the less benefit ! Laurie was 7 and six months in he is still not doing well and his creatinine remains high . The sooner you start the better I believe . I am of the firm belief if Laurie had started a year sooner he would be doing a lot better .
-
My GFR was 8 and I was really sick. I started PD and noticed a marked improvement almost immediately. I guess everyone is different. My brother started in center hemo dialysis when his GFR was 7. He had a really rough time for quite awhile before he started feeling a little better.
Wishing you and all IHDers the best!

My gfr was 9 when I got my catheter. I really did not have any symptoms nor was I sick. Due to the fact that wasn't feeling sick I was hesitant to get it done but after reading many, many posts here and my doctor convincing me, I did get it done before I got so sick that I HAD to go on D.
It turns out it was the smart thing to do and nobody has ever accused me of being smart :-*

Ditto to everything billybags said. At gfr 8, I still felt ok but neph likes to get us started while we still feel good - less stressful transition to dialysis. I initially complained that dialysis didn't make me feel any better but I was told that was because I was never really that sick....
-
I'm glad my neph started me at 14. My last clearance came back at a 6 and I hate to think how bad I'd be feeling without PD.
-
willing to go on pd, zero
gfr just before going on pd, it was 9
-
I started at 11 I was really foggy and bad memory loss and was getting sick to my stomach about 4 times a week.
after I started fogginess went away and so did the puking! Feeling real good except for the cramping I get while draining.
