I am on the Baxter Cycler, and today I awoke to a bag full of blood. It's happened to me a few times before. Most of the time, it was nothing. Once it was bc my peritoneum was bleeding, so I had to stay in the hospital for a few days. I am debating whether or not to go to the ER. My bp is fine and I don't have any pain out of the ordinary.Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? If so, what did you do, and what did it end up being caused from?

Wish I could offer some advice, I hope things work out in a positive way for you. :cuddle;

[When hubby was on PD this happened a few times. Pretty scary. The nurse told us that it only takes a very small amount of blood to make the bag look like it is full of blood. Have you been lifting anything or doing any exercise or work that you don't normally do? With all the little blood vessels that are in the peritoneal it doesn't take much for one to break and bleed a little. Don't worry too much it habits to a lot of people on PD.

Well, I hooked up earlier tonight to see if there was still blood bc on my last drain last night there wasn't any. So, there was jsut a slight pink tinge to it this time...I guess I'm OK. If my bag is RED agian instead of just slightly PINK, then I'll bring it to the dialysis center tomorrow. But I think I'm okay now.
To answer you questions, del, I didn't do anything out of the ordinary yesterday to make this happen. I am on bloodthinners though, so that's probably a big part of it. Thanks for the advice, though! I really needed to be reassured that it tends to happen now and then to everybody!

I had some blood when they did a test flush after my surgery. The PD Nurse told me that it was normal after surgery, but if it does happen to me at home I need to keep the bag and call them because they will need to see me and test the fluid. I would definitely call and let your doctor or center know, even if it's just pink. I hope you have a good night.

I think if it bothers you, get it checked out!

Well, last night's bag was pretty much clear except for a tiny bit of blood that you really had to look for to see. When I hooked up a little while ago, there was blood again. It was red, not pink, but not as red as the night before last. I have an appointment with my hemotologist in the morning, so afterwards I'll bring my bag to the dialysis center. I'm pretty sure it wil be bloody. :( I'm still not too worried bc everything else seems fine; no pain and bp fine. But to be on the safe side, I am going to the dialysis center tomorrow.
I know I should've gone when the first bag was bloody, but my nurse isn't there this week. I don't know the new nurse that is there, and she doesn't know my situation...that this has happened before and it was nothing. I just figured she would tell me to go to the ER. I really don't want to...Every time I go I end up staying for at least 4 days bc of all my other problems, mainly my bloodclot. The bloodclot panics them, and they tell me that I'm not allowed to get out of bed, even though I've been walking with this bloodclot for 3 years now.
Anyway, going tomorrow after hemo appt. Hopefully I won't have to go to the hospital!

Well, I brought the bag to the nurse, and I had to explain to her that it's happened before and wha tshe needed to do. Yeah, I had to tell her that she needed to test it for infection and call my DR to let him know what's going on. This nurse isn't new to dialysis, btw, she's just new to my unit. She's apparently been a dialysis nurse for a long time, but you'd never know it if you met her! lol Anyway, she's supposed to call me back and let me know what the DR says, but I already know what that will be: "Test the bag, check her prothyme (sp), tell her if anything out of the ordinary happens or if she gets pain to go to the ER." Yeah, I've been through this many times before. She hasn't called yet, though, and it's already 3pm, so I think I'm going to call her. I'll tell you all what happens later when I get back from class.

Last night's bag was only slightly bloody. It's almost gone now! *yay* :clap; I guess it was nothing again, even though it went on for...this was the 5th night.

Good news Shay... :thumbup;

Happened twice to me .. Doc. said that I had just reabsorbed my period? Could be what happened to you?
-
Nah..Well, that's what it is sometimes, but this was different. It was redder and went on for 5 days. I jsut have a sensitive peritoneum, I guess! lol I'm dry during the day, so they're about to give me a last fill of about 300mL so I'll be more comfortable. I read in another post that you do that too. :)
-
yes must have a last fill for comfort started at 300 but felt bloated so lowered to 100 and found it works perfect. If I didn't have a last fill every time I sit or bend I could feel the poke inside.... hurts like a bitch.. Also did you know that in the US their catheter ends are a coil so obviously they don't have a point but in Canada we use pencil shaped ones.
