So I was at the gym today at 5:30 AM as planned. ;D Did my weigh training, then 20 minutes on the recumbent bike.
The worst part is that as soon as I get home, I am STARVING and only have a few minutes to get showered and out the door for work.
Any other exercisers or gym-goers, feel free to post here as well. let's cheer each other on. :cheer:

what is a gym? :rofl;

congrats !! :2thumbsup;
since my transplant in feb., i've been going 6-7 days a week, and since I'm still on sick leave from work, I try to workout at least 1.5 hours (more if I don't feel like passing out :rofl;)
I do at least 40 min on the ellipitical, then 25-30 min on either the treadmill or stairmasters, then weight training after. I smell pretty rank at that point. :rofl; :rofl;

Excellent!

That's awesome! When did you start back at the gym after your transplant? Were you exercising prior to that point?
congrats !! :2thumbsup;

After my transplant in January I joined Planet Fitness. I have always loathed exercise, but I LOVE this gym. I just do what I can. I started just walking on the tread mill. Now I start with the elliptical - I'm up to 3 whole minutes and proud of it! I jog in 2 minute intervals on the treadmill (walk a lot, jog a little, walk a lot, jog a little). The most I've done so far is 12 minutes of jogging spread out over a 60 minute walk. May seem like nothing to some, but for me it's monumental. I cried the day I ran 10 minutes. I turn 50 next summer, 13 months from now, and plan to run a 5K. That's my goal, but for now a little more each day. My mantra "Because I'm alive and because I can!". Today I had very little time so I just did a 20 minute power walk. i go to the gym almost every day and usually for an hour or so. I think my kidney donor was an athlete because this exercise kick is very new to me.
Good for you! :cheer: Good for all of us! :cheer:

In the spirit of full disclosure, I did not make it to the gym today. I have a weird pattern whereby if my BP drops too low at the end of my treatments (below 100 systolic), then I can't sleep. I will go to sleep just fine, then wake up about 2 hours later wide awake with my RLS flaring, even though I had taken my Requip just two hours before. I then have to go lay on the couch so I don't aggravate my husband and since I have sleep apnea as well, I fitfully sleep for an hour or so until I know I'll be able to fall asleep in bed.
Then, in the morning, I'm a zombie since my sleep cycle is all off kilter. I'm hoping with time and exercise, the RLS subsides. I also need to figure out my dry weight, I increased it almost a full kilo but might still have to go up a bit more to avoid these low BP problems.

Had a great morning. Lost 3.4 lbs this week (Weight Watchers weigh in on Tuesday mornings) followed by an hour and fifteen minutes at the gym. :cheer:
Hope you're all having a good day, too!

Awesome! Good to know that you can do WW after a transplant. I tried it several times before and was so used to dealing with water weight gains that I just gave up. After a transplant, I would think that water weight issues would be more stable.
I did go to the gym today myself. I found that I sleep better at night if my BP is over 100 before I go to bed. Odd. I will have to discuss with my neph at our appointment on Monday.

I've been going to the gym for years, at least 10 if my memory serves me correctly. Even when I was diagnosed with kidney failure, I still went (it was tough though, as I felt like crap). But I kept it up over the years.
For my 2nd transplant, since I was on hemo, I had to cut my workouts short - 30-40 min on the elliptical plus weights and that's it - and I worked out up until the day before surgery. I went back working out the day after I was discharged, nothing intense just 30 minutes at a slow pace on the treadmill, I didn't want to do anything high intensity to avoid ripping something and having to go back to surgery again. :rofl;
I think it was about a month after I was discharged that I increased the intensity. At this point I cranked it up as much as possible.

Made it to the gym for the fourth time this week. :yahoo; Only missed one day so far. But I was a little nauseated when I got home so I laid down for a minute and was able to pull myself together enough to go to work. Is this something that can happen from time to time? I didn't do anything extra strenuous today.

Good for you! I wish I could do the same, but my conjestive heart failure kind of nixes that. I do walk on the treadmill and take walks outside. I used to pump iron in my 30's, and loved it. I did warm-ups, stretches, free weights and machines, and a cool down routine. Throw in three two-mile runs a week, and I was feeling really good.
