Title: HELP - should mom be taking Celebrex 100 mg 2x a day???
Post by: ODAT on May 07, 2012, 11:08:51 AM
doctor at transitional care put mom on this med WITHOUT discussing it with us. Yes, I just blew someone out of the water on the phone too bad it wasnt the right person. this pa said she'd 'relay' the message.

The doctor there gave her this because of the pain she's complaining of in her left arm (fistula arm). They are going to splint her left arm (as well as her right) to stablize it. They xrayed it and nothing is wrong. Possibly she sprained it as well when she fell?

They also increased her clonapen to 1mg and her lexapro to 10 mg day.

First from the dilaudid she was very upset and crying for hours. Gave her antianxiety. Then she started shaking where she couldnt even take a step without bouncing and crying cuz her legs wouldnt move. Then the next day shes almost comatose, lying in her bed when I got there so sound asleep her mouth was open and tongue hanging out! And she is very bitchy and mean looking. NOT like mom. WTheck! I don't know what's going on. I'm starting to research what could make her so sleepy. She indeed is not shaking anymore, but comon, one med to cover another meds side affects?

Thanks! I did see that the doctor should know you have kidney problems before they put you on celebrex, but he knows that. I just called mom's neph and he will call me back.

From what I understand, Celebrex is a NSAID like Ibuprofen. So if you have kidney problems you shouldn't take it. BUT if you already have bad kidneys and require dialysis, as our doc put it "what more harm can be done?" I'd still check with your neph anyway, because everyone's situation is a little different.

Celebrex is commonly used for arthritis. I really dont think they should treat her for arthritis if the pain is only in one arm. It is not likely I dont think.

Nephrologist said that it's okay for mom to take it but on an as-needed basis or reduce it down to once in morning. Also if she was showing high bp to take her off.
