I cant wait! I see the surgeon on Monday!!!
Im so excited! I wanted to do this months ago, but my old doctor wouldnt allow me.
I am totally loving my new doctor!
I did PD for a few months, a few years ago. I loved it. I thought it was much better!

I have to decide if i want to do the cycler, or manual. I did manual before. But i admit this cycler thing sounds great too. Free to do things during the day?!?

Why did the dr not allow you to do PD? To me that's messed up!

I love the Cycler!! It gives me alot more freedom to do what I want. It also kinda gives you freedom to get on late if you want to stay out later. I have stayed out watching movies and things and didnt have to worry to stop and do a manual. Also I feel better on the cycler then doing manual.

Now how do you feel about being tied down to the machine for 8 or more hours?

The only concern with that is not being able to get to my son in the middle of the night, if he needs me.

my old dr wouldnt allow me to do pd because I had tried it once before, the cath got pulled, so the fluid was going into my fat tissue, and wouldnt come off. I went to the hospital to get it fixed and ended up with that nasty infection i cant spell. so he recommended we take t out, heal and try again later... well later came and he said no

I do understand you concern. Yes it would be hard being tied down like that to get to your son. Now with the fersenious(sp) machine i have it has it where i can unhook and then come back. I would sometimes do that when i would watch my baby cousin.

I have had my tube get pulled a couple of times but that never happen to me. I also had my share of infections. But my dr always try to use other methods to heal it and does ever want to remove the tube. But one time my dr was on vacation and i got a infection and the first thing the dr taking over said will if it doesn't get better we will have to do surgery to remove the tube. i was like forget that!!

I seem to remember that when I was on the cycler, you could get of it, and than restart it when you've done what you wanted to do.

Good luck G

Cas, if you absolutely have to come off during cycling you could, but my PD nurses and Neph have said they would prefer I didn't. When I got my initial delivery of supplies there was a box of temp caps in there for just such an occasion. I haven't used any of them, but they are there.

GLM, I really do like doing PD. As deniferfer has pointed out, it does give me the latitude to move my cycling times around some to accommodate my schedule. Good luck!

A reason my doctor does this... hes a butthead.. haha and also found out that he makes alot more money if im on hemo than on pd... so thats probably why. Heck, i was with him for nearly 3 years before i was told about pd! FROM THIS SITE. otherwise I probably would have never known!!!

i know with baxter i have a 15 or 20 foot patient line, and i can reach everyhere in my apartment, i even let my dog outside to go pottty and i stand at the front door (hoping and praying he only pees  :pray;) if in an emergency i can unhook.... i love the freedom it gives me.... if i start too late, i can bypass the last little bit of my llast dwell and go about my day. i did hemo for a few months an d it was hell for me, i hated it and i9 was so miserable... i would always give myself an extra ten mins to pull myself together, bc i would cry my eyeballs out on the way there.... but i love PD, and Im going to school for nursing, to do home dialysis nursing

A kind, caring doctor makes a big difference. Before I was diagnosed with ESRD by my current doctor I spent a number of years having my symptoms treated by throwing more medicines at it.

When I started being looked at my my current primary care doctor his first questions was "why are you on all these drugs"? He started looking for the friggin cause of my symptoms and directed eventually directed me to a nephrologist who determine that my kidneys were failing.

Of course by this time it had gone on so long that I was already in stage 3 and progressed quickly in a few months to stage 5. I tried to go one as I was as long as possible but was eventually forced to go onto dialysis to stay alive. It did indeed save me.

If I had had a caring doctor looking for a cuae from the beginning I may have been able to avoid all of this.

Bottom line, a caring doctor makes such a huge difference.

The patient line on the Baxter cycler is 20 feet. It's enough for me to be able to connect then go sit in my chair in the loft and watch TV before turning in for the night. it also lets me get to the bathroom if I need to go during the night (and yes, I still have the 2 AM pee call  :clap;) When I was traveling last week, the line was enough for me to be able to get everywhere in the room without any stress.

I have my machine in our living room and because of our house's lay out I can get to the bedroon, bathroon, computer room, & kitchen.  I can also let the dog out & step outside (I have to prop the storm door open as not to pinch the patient line) through the front door.  I had my home inspection last week and nothing negative was said.  I find that if I am sitting during the final drain I get better UF.

When I was on PD my wife got a table with wheels for the cycler. This allowed us to move the machine all around the bedroom and living room and be able to reach the bathroom. The mobility was great.

A cart wit wheel came with my cycler from Frecenius and the wheel could be locked.  Such a deal...!

they told me the lines are about 40 feet, so i think ill be able to do that! my house is tiny! And they are giving me a table on wheels too, so it can be easily moved!
Its in, had the surgery friday!! Im in pain, but its going to be so worth it.

WOW    A 40 foot patient line!?!?  The longest I could get was 20 feet.  If I had a longer line I could watch the HD TV in the den instead of the older TV in the living room.

Yes! A 40' line would let me have a lot further roving territory than I do now. Which system are you using that has a line that long? Mine from Baxter are only 20'.

Bleja, they told me I could start dialyzing a week after they placed my cath if I had to. Fortunately, I was able to hold off for about a month before I finally had to start.

Fresenius line is 20 feet, I've asked if they have a longer one and the answer was NO.  With my 20 foot line because of where I put my machine and the layout of my home I'm quite mobile.  My nurse want me to use the drain bags so I can check the clarity of the drained solution.  I've never had a cloudy drain, but there's always a first time, eh?

My sweet wife came up with a novel idea to help me more mobile when I was doing PD. She got a table with wheels to put the cycler on so we could move it around the house. She plugged it in with a long orange heavy duty extension cord.

I was able to walk to the bathroom and all over the main part of the house. It was great. She is such a creative thinker.
