Hello my name is Viv (female) residing in Los Angeles.
I am a caregiver for my husband , married 42 years, who has been on dialysis since July 2010. I read with interest the forum especially the caregiver section. We all seem to go through the same problems. This gives me confidence that I am not alone. We go to dialysis 4 times a week and with all the other work I have to do, I don't have much time to write. When my husband goes on the machine, I go for a long walk near the center. This is a great stress reliever and I recommend anybody to do this.
Looking forward to interact with other members.
Thanks
Viv

Hi Viv, welcome to the site, glad you have joined us. I agree with you that care givers do go through the same things and it is nice to talk to others about them. :welcomesign;

Welcome, Viv! You'll find lots of support here from good and caring people who are in a similar situation to yours. I love your idea of long walks as a stress-reliever. Alas, I'm the patient and am in a wheelchair, but was once the caregiver and used that very method to relieve stress--it really helped! All the best to you.

Short for Vivian?
I am the husband of a caregiver, meaning, I take all of the care I can get. Greedy. Once I wanted a little bell that I could jingle when I wanted something. Right after that request she began dialing the telephone.
“Who are you calling?” I asked.
“A divorce attorney.”
“No bell?”
“No bell.”
So, I got up and managed to get the subject glass of water myself. With great relief I find myself off dialysis, but that’s another story. My wife has since disappeared into a sewing room I built for her before I decided to be a sick person (25 ft x 20 ft). She has a giant sewing table and at least three machines out there. She is happy. I have Auggie the Doggie who’s real talent is licking faces, pulling at my socks and confronting one of our cats before chasing the poor fuzzy feline all over the house.
I used to do the cooking because she cooked our very first meal after we got married. All she had to do was fill a saucepan with water and drop in the hot dogs, turn on the burner. She burnt the hot dogs. I think we were smooching too long in the other room or wherever I caught her. As caregiver she cooks now. I’m getting well on her cuisine so she must have learned something.
For real up to date caregiver information, talk to Boswife. She is the best. She knows the personalities around here. If you look carefully at the photo/avatar, she is the one on the right.
