Title: Intro...right place?
Post by: bsmith51 on March 08, 2012, 06:22:43 PM
Greetings,
My name is Bruce and I have been working in dialysis , mostly HD, but a little PD as a dietitan, for 15+ years.  I started as a dietitian and did that for approx 12 years before getting my RN license in 2007.  I started working in a privately owned clinic in Arizona (as an RD), then went to work for a national company (RD).  Transferred to Houston and a second national company in 2001.

I have  been following the board for the last couple of months and applaud your sense of community and your strength in the face of ongoing adversity.

I am joining the board to learn, which has already started, as well as to contribute as possible.  I feel I can contribute some details re the HD treatment, but it's the experience that I don't know ( hope I never will), but know my understanding that experience will make me a better care provider.

BTW, the picture is just to remind me not to be a horse's ass  If it doesn't work, feel free to let me know.

Health and happiness to all.
Bruce

Aw, what a lovely intro! It should go under Introduce Yourself, but don't worry, we have superb moderators who will come along and move your post.

I'm sure we can learn so much from you. Thank you for joining as a dedicated professional. A dietician and an RN? Wow, you are quite the find for this community.

You're a member of the IHD family, now, so please feel free to jump in and share your thoughts whenever the mood strikes. There can be (often understandable) hostility toward people on the other side of the needle, so please do not take it personally. Hearing about the hopeless personnel at some clinics makes us all appreciate the compassionate care providers like yourself even more.

I look forward to seeing more of your posts.

Welcome, welcome, welcome! :waving;

Ooooh, I'm from Houston!  I live up north now, though.  Where abouts in town are you?

Do please go and have a look at the Diet forum on the site.  You'll find many frustrated and bewildered people  LOL!  I had a bite of my husband's baked potato the other night...it was the first baked potato I'd eaten in seven years, and I think I ended up dreaming about it, it was so heavenly!

I miss beans.

Very glad you joined, and do PLEASE feel free to give us lots of tips on how to be healthy on this diet.  The thing that disturbs me about the diet is that it seems to concentrate on what we shouldn't eat instead of what we SHOULD eat, you know?  I worry about sacrificing good nutrition for "bad" foods.

Hi, Bruce, and welcome!  You'll learn a lot here from the patient's point of view and have some good laughs sometimes too.  Looking forward to your your contributions from "the other side of the needle" as carried phrases it.  All the best to you.

Welcome Bruce!  So glad you joined.  You could possibly shed some light on some things for these who have this disease.  I do not have it, but care for my husband who has had it since 2004.

Again Welcome & God Bless,
lmunchkin :kickstart;

 :beer1; to you, Bruce, for being open enough to think of looking into the patients' opinions on their health care!  We like that around here.

Welcome Bruce to IHD. It's good to have people who are renal health workers on the forum. There are lots of posts and questions regarding our kidney issues and it will be good to get the imput of a professional.

welcome Bruce.  As said, it is good that you are interested enough in us as patients to join.  I hope to learn a lot from your perspective as well.  I feel I'm very lucky to have three PD nurses that really care about me.  For example.  I'm a VERY HARD stick and each month for labs it will take at least 3 or 4 sticks to get enough blood.  For those on my side of the needle know it is not a very pleasant experience.  BUT my nurses try sooooooo hard to get it the first time and are very sorry and apologetic with they can't.    It is nice to know that there are more like them and you around.   Grumpy
