I discovered this forum through a referral that came to my blog. I saw my letter to the donor family posted, and thought I would join in on the fun.
I was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease at age 20 in 1998. I suffered kidney failure in 2005 due to complications and an infection in my left kidney. I was in hemodialysis for about 18 months, and received a kidney from a cadaver donor on January 11, 2007.
I am feeling much better now, and look forward to reading this board.

Welcome to IHD Nathan,
I hope your kidney lasts a long time, we have had several members receive the gift of renewed life this year.
There are several stories within this site on that very subject you can find them in this section.

Oh my gosh, how wonderful. I hope you stay with this site even though you have a transplant. We have a transplant section for the lucky ones. Please take a look at it and feel free to post your story.
Congratulations and welcome to our site.

Hi, nathan, Welcome :welcomesign;
I'm just curious where you live that your wait for a cadaveric kidney was so short. I'm in the northeast and the wait here is about 4 to 5 years. I'm on my seond round of dialysis after I lost my cadaveric transplant of 18 years.
So glad your feeling well. May yours last even longer!

I live just north of Dallas, TX. The transplant hospital in Dallas is affiliated with a transplant hospital in Fort Worth. The two cities are in different transplant regions, so I sent in one application with both boxes checked on it. The Fort Worth area has a much smaller population, so I suppose most people move up on the list fairly quickly. I was on the transplant list for about twelve months, total. My blood type is A Positive. I don't know if that helped, or not.

Welcome Nathan! :welcomesign; :2thumbsup;
You should post your experience with the transplant in the transplant thread for the many who haven't ever had one yet! ;) :2thumbsup; :clap;

:waving; Hi Nathan,
I am glad you came here after I found your sample Letter to Donor Family on your blog. It's a very good
letter and I think it's wonderful to have an idea of what to write. My daughter Jenna wants to compose a
personal letter to her living donor (a woman we met in Sept. on the internet) so she will be able to
see what a difference her gift has made in Jenna's life. Surgery was 2 1/2 weeks ago!
Welcome!
