Even though her life has been 'off the rails' for a long time, I am still stunned. I really had hoped her friends and family might have been able to help her to help herself and get her life 'back on track' Very sad. I liked her music and my sympathies to her daughter, mother and the rest of her family. Just unnecessary and tragic. She was my age and so many of us on this board struggle to find ways to survive all of this that we suffer though and to live . I hope she has found some peace, but such a waste. At least her music lives on as a legacy, which is certainly small comfort for her loved ones.

No answer yet as to the cause. She was great, what a huge loss.

Considered to be the best National Anthem rendition to open a sporting event. 1/27/91 @ Super Bowl XXV.
May she rest in peace.

Great singer, but little sympathy for those who abuse their bodies.

So true, Amanda. When I posted about the loss, I was trying to think of a way to say that I'm sorry that she died, but in some ways it was inevitable. I would rather live a quiet contented life free from recreational (and escapist) drugs, than to be rich and famous, but so discontent with life that I needed to find a way to escape from it through drug use.

Yes, she was a great singer, but I wasn't surprised when I heard the news. My local radio station is doing a tribute to her music today, playing all her music. I thought that was nice. They did the same for Michael Jackson. It's a huge shame these talented pop icons recently have died. It's really, really sad.
I'm sure her music will be reinvented with her passing, like MJ's was. It's too bad they died to have this happen.
May she rest in peace.

How sad ? no way. She was a junkie, rich and talented but still a junkie. all the resources in the world to kick her habit but chose not to, surrounded no doubt by advisers and friends who who enabled her behavior.

Well I think it is very sad? So young, so talented, and now gone! I did some pretty stupid things in my life too. Thank God I pulled out of it. I could have ended up like MJ & Whitney and any other alcoholic/drug addict. I just hope that in their passing that they knew the Lord. Yes even on their death beds.
Im so thankful that prayers pulled me out of the pit and lifted me to solid ground. No telling where I would be.
RIP Whitney.

I *do* think it's sad. A life wasted. And I postedd it here because as I said in the original posting, so many of us are fighting to live a better, healthy life and suffering in many ways to do so. That someone who "almost had it all" (to quote one of her songs) wasn't able to get her life together, to me is a life wasted.

I think its sad even though she was an addict.
I am big on people paying for what they do- and it looks like she has paid big-time. Its still a total waste of a person. I am sorry for her family. I wish she would have taken the chance to get clean and not throw her life away like that. And now I feel sorry for her daughter, and all her people who have to live without her- for her its easy- for them- not so much.

What's really sad is that people are dying every day of horrible illnesses through no fault of their own who do not have choices. Taking drugs and abusing one's body is a choice. What I won't say is that someone who is rich should be happy because that can't be bought with money.

They are saying 6 to 8 weeks before toxicology reports are in. She supposedly cleaned her act up for almost 2years. This will show how she died. I know people don't make you do anything, but the influences of Bad Boy Bobby Brown probably didn't help. I hope it shows she did straighten up. They showed this morning an interview she did with Ophra where she had been drug free after 2 times in rehab. I believe it was in 2009 or 2010.
I suspect it was probably drugs, but hope that it was some other cause that took her life! You just never know what goes on in peoples lives. What makes them tick. Whitney was a loving mother to her child. And she also was her mothers daughter. She could have had a heart attack in the tub and drowned. Who knows?
I hurt for those she left behind. She is at peace, but they are here to pick up the pieces of their broken hearts.
God Bless,
