Sunday as I was getting ready to watch the Super Bowl, I started having some intermittent diarrhea that I didn't really think too much of. As the day progressed, the diarrhea got more frequent and violent. It was very liquidy and the stools were tarry black. I described that to a friend who has a lot of medical experience, and he though it was stomach bleeding and I should go to the hospital right away. Sure enough, I was bleeding internally and no one knew where it was coming from. The stool from the diarrhea was actually almost pure blood! I was taken to a larger hospital and they did an emergency endoscopy and found two large bleeding ulcers in my stomach, which they surgically repaired. I had lost so much blood by then, that my brain was starting to suffer. I was becoming very confused, I would yell out randomly, and I was even combative with the nurses. I've received six units of blood, and I'm due for at least one more tonight. I also seem to have an unknown infection. I have no clue when I'll go home but I just want this madness to be over! :banghead;

Oh my god, what a horrible story! I'm so sorry to hear this. Having an "unknown infection" is particularly worrying. Is there anything we can do for you?
-
Oh Adam, YIKES !! I'm really sorry to hear about this latest setback for you. I know you've been dealing with so much emotionally already and this must just add even more to your burden. Thank goodness for your knowledgeable friend and I'm so glad you addressed it quickly yourself and got help from professionals who were able to get the situation under better control. I hope you're soon better and out of the hospital. Please keep us all posted. Thinking of you and wishing you a speedy recovery.
-
Sorry to hear this, mate. I hope you improve rapidly.

Wow Adam, I am glad you listened to your friend. If not, well, lets not think about that. Hope you are feeling better very soon.

Adam, have you run over a black cat. You have certainly been in the wars a lot lately. It was good you took notice of your friend and went to get some help. I hope you are improving, are you giving the nurses any grieve. Have they found out what infection you have? Keep your "pecker up" can I say that, because you Americans have different meanings for things.Any way you take care.

Well, my hemoglobin is stabilized, and I didn't need that last unit of blood. There is no more apparent bleeding. Unfortunately, I have pneumonia. I'm on IV antibiotics for it, which will be switched to oral when I go home. My doctor said that if everything remains stable, I can go home tomorrow. Because my mobility has suffered so much during this hospital stay, I will be having outpatient physical therapy to help me get my strength back. I'll keep you all updated.
-
Aw Adam...this sucks. But, here's hoping you have an easy and speedy recovery! :beer1;
-
Pneumonia sucks. I guess, at least there's a name for it, not like that other stomach thing. Were they related and how?
Hope you feel a bit better?
-
So glad to hear that everything is getting sorted ou.
-
Adam are you home yet.
-
I got home yesterday afternoon. I've been very tired and have a lot of pain, but I'm doing alright. I didn't sleep well last night though.
-
Stomach pain?
-
wow, that is REALLY SCARY! Hope you are doing better now. Good friend you've got there.
-
Stomach pain?
Yes, primarily stomach pain. It's gradually been getting better, though.
-
Adam you take it easy now. Glad you are home.
