Title: Newbie
Post by: doglvr02 on February 01, 2007, 09:22:52 AM
Hello - I was just informed of this site yesterday by one of my dialysis technicians. What a great site this is! I'll tell you a little about myself. On now 2-1/2 years into my second round of dialysis. My first round was in 1981-1986 after which I had a successful cadaveric transplant that lasted for 18 years. It started failing in April 2005. I decided at that time to go the peritoneal route, which I absolutely loved! It, however, did not love me. After about 6 months the dialysisate started leaking up and around my lungs, I couldn't breathe, my lungs had to be tapped of the fluid, and that was the subsequent demise of peritoneal as I knew it. A port, then a fistula, then hemo. I was lucky enough to have my best friend come forward and be tested, and approved, as a donor on my behalf in a swap situation since she is not my blood type. We have been jumping through hurdles and on an emotional roller coaster for 2 years to get this done. In the meantime, my PRA has jumped to 100% and our only option would be a trip down plasma apheresis lane to see if they could give me her kidney directly. I'm not so sure I want to go that route. So that's a little bit about me and it truly is a Reader's Digest version. Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.

Hi DogLover!  :welcomesign;

I was on PD at first too but just like you suddenly I had to get a chest catheter then go the fistula route.  :cuddle;

DogLvr welcome to our site.  Be sure and post your pet's picture at http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=1036.0  Looking forward to that.

We have had one of our members JillD who has just completed a Positive Crossmatch Transplant and is doing great.  You can read about it here:  http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=1319.0

I had my transplant for 17 years so I don't know about you but I came back on dialysis kicking and screaming!

Thank you for joining our site.  I'm sure you will have a lot to offer.
