Title: why do centers have to use ear thermometers?
Post by: sullidog on January 21, 2012, 06:36:49 PM
Almost every center I have went to uses ear thermometers instead of oral ones, I hate the ear ones and find they are not acurate, for example if you have been out in the cold and don't have a hat on your head your temp taken in the ear could be lower then it actually is, me for example, I wear headphones to listen to music while on treatment so my ears get hot and sweaty, so for that reason  the thermometer always shows a slite elivated temp at the end of treatment, is there a reason why centers prefer this method over oral ones?

What kind of animal is that you and your buddy there have your feet on?  Tell me that is not a HUGE Squirrel. It's not a Fox cause its legs appear too short. What is that?  (In your picture there)

Sully, the clinic we went to did oral w/ a protective disposable plastic cover. No ear thermo.  Never knew they existed!

Our center used disposable oral thermometers. They always ran low.

I hear ya on the GI Joe hunks!  But I have never seen a squirrel that large. It must be on some of them Steroids or something.  " The Squirrel that is, not the Dolls".  LOL

We use the ear ones. For a bit of fun, do both ears - you'll come up with different results.

i ORGOT WHERE i READ THIS, EITHER IN A MEDICAL NEWSLETTER OR A SCIENCE MAGAZINE, BUT THE REPORT STATED THAT THE EAR THERMOMETERS WERE NOT ACCURATE AND WHY MOST DOCTORS DO NOT LIKE THEM.

I forgot were I read it, but it was either a medical newsletter or a science magazine that tested them and found that they were not acurate and that a high percentage of facilities did not like them due to inaccuracies compared to the oral thermometer.

My center used the oral with the disposable cover along with the various hospitals I have been to and doctor offices.doctor office use the ear thermometer, but it wasn't within the last few years.

My center has the ear thermometers but they almost always use the disposable oral ones.  There has been a number of times I do not get my temp taken at the end of D.  It happened on Friday.  My tech looked at me and said we need to take your temperature.  I put my hand on my forehead and told them hmmmm, 98.4 and they said okay.

I can remember one time I had chills and my center refused to send me to the hospital because the ear probe said I didn't have a fever, I took my own temp when I got home and sure enough I did so called my neph, he sent me to the er.
