February 6 I will be training on the NxStage and Pureflow to do my fathers treatments. After doing nocturnal on the Fresenius for over 6 years with very few alarms and machine problems, I have to admit I am a bit skeptical. Hopefully, I will be able to say ilovenxstage after the training.

Good Luck!
Let us know how it goes.

Why are you making the switch?

We started nocturnal over 6 years ago on the Fresenius 2008H. Fresenius sent out a notice they were no longer going to sell the H machine and would only furnish parts for 3 years. This left me with 2 choices NxStage or upgrade to the Freseni Baby K for home.
Our Fresenius machine has always been very dependable 3 service calls in 6 years and very few alarms. However, there is alot of time spent with these machines for set up and end of treatment. Making our bicarb. and maintaining the RO. I have read how others feel terrific on the NxStage and how simple it is so decided to try NxStage first. I'm not real crazy about the idea that your run time on the NxStage is based on the Blood Flow, Filtration Factor and UF. (But maybe I am making a big to do about nothing)
On the Fresenius I could set the time 6, 7, 8, 9 hrs and not have to change anything else. I'll let you know how it goes. They think they can train me on the NxStage and Pureflow in 4 days. We'll see.

Nocturnal dialysis is a lot different than 2 1/2 h dialysis. Please keep us updated.

Zach, I will be doing nocturnal dialysis with the NxStage. If I had to make a choice of doing nocturnal with the Fresenius or Short with the NxStage; I'd stick with all the work and go Fresenius. You just have no idea (or I don't think you have) how good it feels to go to bed as you normally would and wake up and realize dialysis is over with and you hadn't even given it a thought. Just did your normal thing...sleep. Then your free for the whole day up until bedtime. There are 2 others at our center on the NxStage doing nocturnal. I'll be the 3rd to give it a go.

I understood that. I was wondering how well the NxStage can handle it. Are you doing six nights a week? There's no question that Nocturnal hemodialysis is the gold standard. ;)

One patient has been on nocturnal over 6 months. Another patient has been on nocturnal since October. So far so good.
They each run 6 nights the 1 patient is an XL size the other just L. My father happens to be on the small side so I am going to try to keep our current schedule which is 5 nights.

Oh most definitely. I know people on Nocturnal who have NO fluid restriction and NO diet restriction what-so-ever. Daily Nocturnal Hemo is indeed the GOLD standard.
