Ok, here's a "different" project that's keeping me busy. So, for as long as I can remember, ever since I was a little kid, I've been fascinated by fireplaces and wood burning stoves, and I've always wanted to have one. Unfortunately, I've never been able to, and I now live in a small apartment where I definitely can't have one. So, I'm making a replica of one. I've started with an artificial wood stove heater with a nice electrically generated "fire", but instead of just sitting it against the wall, plugging it in and enjoying it, I'm actually making it look as real as possible. I've made an artificial chimney pipe from 4" diameter PVC pipe that "appears" to go into the wall, but its actually just barely touching it, I redid the top of the unit to hide the electrical controls (I can still reach them if I remove the chimney pipe, plus it has a remote control), I've added a simulated tile stove pad on the floor. It looks like it's built in, but it just rests over the carpet. I still need to do some work with that, I also painted the door frames to resemble brass. I need to make new handles for the stove's door since it only has tiny little brass knobs which a real wood stove would likely never have. I also still need to add a set of decorative fireplace tools and maybe a cast iron tea kettle on top. This may be a bit unusual, but it may be the closest I'll get to having a real wood stove. Of coarse I have to add :pics; (The oil radiator heater next to the stove isn't part of it, it's just sitting there)

It looks really warm and authentic! :clap;

Very nice looking. Adding the teakettle would
be cool, Whe we looked for a house we sai we needed a fireplace.
We ended up with 2 . A woodburning one in a family room and gas in the kitches.
Your does wonders and hope you enjoy. Just dont burn yourself.

Good job!!!! Looks authentic.

You have a artistic mind n this and the models. Nice job.

Great job! We have an electric fireplace and love it. The only thing it needs is a way to replicate the sound and smell of wood burning.

Thanks for all the compliments. I love doing things like this, whether it's with building models, drawing, or creating things on a larger scale like this.

I'm actually able to place a speaker behind the stove, and play a fire sound CD (which I already have) so it appear the sound is coming from the stove. I can also get a wood smoke scented candle if I want. I probably won't because they are ridiculously expensive, but it's nice to know that they are available.

This is an incredible project! :2thumbsup;
You can come to my home anytime to do some remodeling! :clap; :clap;

Yeah, those woodwick candles are pricey! I wonder if you could dip a bamboo skewer in a bit of veggie oil and burn it in an incense burner for a cheaper option.

Hey, you aren't the only one who wants it to smell authentic - how about something like this? (Amazing what they have in scents for incense these days.) Never tried it, but it's certainly cheaper than those candles.

Awesome! I think I'll give those a try.

That is really cool and looks just like a real fireplace!! Good job and thanks for sharing!! :thumbup;

That is really neat. I like it. I've never had a fireplace either. When I was little, we had a woodstove, but we had a flu fire, and I was afraid of the stove being lit after that. It was lit, buy my parents lied to me, telling me that it wasn't.. *L*

I've added a more realistic looking handle to the door, and I got a real cast iron kettle.
-
That handle looks a good deal like the one on our stove, Adam!
Amazing!

Oh yeah.. that looks like the handle that was on our woodstove as a kid.. are you going to put one on the other side as well?
LOVE the cast iron kettle too.
