Title: First exit site infection

Had a great visit at the Renal Center today. All my numbers are looking good and the dialysis is is doing it's job. The only downer was that they found an infection at my exit site. My neph gave me scripts for an ointment and a antibiotic. Hopefully it clears up quickly.

highway61, We went to our unit last week, thought husband had an exit site infection. His exit is always dry and clear but when I changed his dressings it was wet and gooey, nearly had kittens. Any way we went and we got the all clear thank goodness. I don't know how you deal with exit sites in the US but in the UK we have to clean it with Videne and put a plaster that has Bactroban cream on it. Hope your is OK

billybags, my center has me clean the site with Hectoral soap, then wipe down with Except antiseptic. Then, if I'm putting a bandage on it, gentomiacin cream.

Our neph gave me prescriptions for an oral antibiotic and and Mupirocin Ointment USP 2% for topical treatment. Mine has cleared up nicely. My wife still puts the ointment on it anyway.  :2thumbsup; It is so nice to be loved. :cuddle;

Joe, what is Hectoral soap?

My error (that's what I get got not looking before I type), it's Hibiclens soap. It's a germicidal soap that I use for my exit site care every morning after I shower.

LOL, I was going to say....Hectoral is an activated (very expensive) Vitamin D. Normal kidneys activate Vitamin D so the body can use it, but those dang failed kidneys don't always do the job.

I'm glad that exit site is doing okay now!  :2thumbsup;

I had my PD catheter placed in October and the nurses prescribed me antibacterial ointment that I have to apply daily. It's supposed to help prevent infections. I can't remember the name of the stuff but it seems to be working well.

It's likely gentomiacin, that is what I used.
