Title: working out
Post by: rileysmom on December 29, 2011, 04:03:19 PM
hi there everyone, it's been two weeks since my surgery for my cath for pd. and things are going well.. i am getting my cath flushed out every other day by my pd nurse and i start the actual dialysis on the 9jan. i actually have two questions, how long do i have to wait before i can start working out again, even in moderation... i am getting very bored just hanging around and not being active. also, do i have to wait to start using the belt or can i start using it right away instead of taping the tube to my stomach so it doesnt hang down. i dotn want my daughter to accidentally pull at it or anything. thanks for any imput  :thx;

Check with your VS on how soon you can start exercising again. Mine had me down for about 6 weeks (sux, but that's what she directed). As for the PD belt, my nurses said I could start using it as soon as I got them, so you should be good to go. You might want to check with your nurses to be sure, but I don't see any reason you couldn't start with them now.

It's usually about 6 weeks til you can work out. But you should ask what you're allowed to do. I was told not to lift anything above 20 pounds. If you give yourself a hernia you could jeopardize your PD. She may have other restrictions. In general, be careful and don't do it if it hurts you.
