After we celebrated hubby's 4 year D anniversary Saturday, my little buddy Duke, my 10 yr old mini schnauzer and best friend, got sick. In 2 days he was so listless and lifeless, I took him to the doggie hospital yesterday where they drew blood and hooked him up to an IV for fluids. The vet called last night and said his kidneys have failed. Today they are giving him electrolytes by IV and said if he responds and recovers some functionality he may be ok for a few more months but the vet is not real hopeful. :(
-
oh loony, this breaks my heart..... my dog is my strength and id crumble if i lost her now. And kidneys.. Yes, sadly ironic :'( I hope for the best for you and him and is there 'acute' kidney issues for dogs that *can* get better?? This is just heartbreaking to one other who needs her dog :(
-
looney that is so sad, they arn't just dogs they are our family. I hope the vet can do some thing. How old is he?
-
I'm so sorry, Looney. My two childhood cats, a mother-daughter pair, both had to be put down for kidney failure (about 5 years apart). We did dialyse the one, but she was so strong-willed that the moment she started to feel better she would have none of it. So we decided it was for the best to let her go peacefully.
Hug to you and your sweet Duke.

Awww, looney ... *huggles* for you and Duke.
-
I'm so sorry, Looney! :cuddle;
It is so very hard to lose a furry family member. I hope Duke rallies some. :grouphug;

After 4 days of IV electrolytes and fluids, Duke's GFR was still too low, his BUN too high. So, I have lost my buddy and am heartbroken.

looneytunes,
I am so very sorry for your dog, they are family to us and our break from all of the medical world. I continue to pray for you will keep doing so.
My heart goes out to you... :grouphug;

I was working at the Veterinary Hospital when my kidneys failed. There was one dog that came in twice a week that we gave fluids to. It tried to bite everyone who picked him up except me. I wonder if he knew I had kidney failure too? I did not at the time.

Awww.
I am so sorry, Looney. May Duke rest in peace. I know that there is a hole in your heart. :grouphug; :grouphug;
Know words can heal that, but know that I am thinking of you.

A sad irony, looney tunes. Let's hope that Duke can rally, so that he can be with you a while longer. All the best...

Thanks everyone. It is very strange here without Duke, lonely even though hubby is here in the house. I do appreciate all the encouragement from my IHD friends.

Aw Looney, I just read this! Iam so sorry to hear this. I know this is hurting you, wish I could say or do something, but as usual, nothing will bring Duke back. But you do have the memories and that is something very special. How is J taking it? That's a "stupid" question, I know. Man, I hate this!
lmunchkin :'( :'( :'(
Best I can do is send :grouphug; to you both!!
