Title: "If I am in that situation... I'd be a donor"
Post by: Rerun on November 02, 2011, 08:47:58 PM
I remember my boss that I worked for 25 years ago saying that....  and now he had just turned 60 and had a brain aneurysm or stroke (I'm not sure) on Saturday, and has been declared brain dead and his family have offered over his organs.  It must have been a hard thing to do but I know it is what he wanted.  He told me.  I had gone through kidney failure and was waiting for a transplant.  I think I was saying how I was so glad I had indicated on my driver's license to be a donor two years before I unknowingly would be on a waiting list.

Bateman Family - You did the right thing.   :grouphug;

My husband & I have been donors for years. We have also let everyone know our wishes so there will not be any doubts.

Awww, I'm sorry about your ex-boss, but yay! for his family following his wishes.

As an aside, Blokey wasn't registered as an organ donor when he became ill and then didn't register because 'they wouldn't want anything that I've got anyway'.  I gave up trying to convince him it was the right thing to do and then suddenly an Organ Donor card from the NHS popped through the door.  It seems he had a change of heart after all.

 :thumbup; sad for your boss, but sure nice that his wishes will be made.  I asked this before but wondering again...... can someone whos recieved a kidney, put that up for 'donor' use if or when they die?

I had to get my driver's license renewed last week. The first thing I asked was whether I had to sign to be a donor again.....nope....it carried over from the old license.

And I checked to make sure before I walked out of there! Hmmmm. I'm old enough with this license that I will never have to have it renewed.

 :rofl;

That is, until I move to another state!

Rerun, I'm glad your former boss's wishes were honored.  :2thumbsup;

I guess they tried..........  matching was done, people were there waiting to fly out and when they got in there his organs were not good so they could not use anything.  He had a major stroke at age 60....  maybe too much trauma or he was in a coma too long?  I'd like to know the specifics on this one.

Very sad.    :'(   :(   :'(
