Title: insurance
Post by: stellatransplant on November 02, 2011, 05:57:51 PM
hi, all;

we have  medicare A  and  B  as primary  now. but our  insurance  from  work  indicates  that this  health  plan does  not  coordinate  its  prescription drug benefits  with medicare B."  Does  this  mean  that  we  can  use  either medicare  B alone  or  work insurance  alone  to buy antirejection medicine , but  we  can  not  use  both(  medicare   and  work  insurance )? contacted  with  insurance  several  times,  different  people  gave  different  answers.

Thank  you  for  any input.

Iran into the same problem and I went with my work insurance for scripts because the coverage was better than part B.   Basically I pay for part B (that covers anti rejection drugs) but I get zero benefit on the scripts.   :thumbdown;

My work insurance is primary and medicare is secondary.

medicare is  our primary now. so  it  is  kind  of  different  from  your situation. anybody has  the  similar situation? Thanks

Carl's Medicare is his primary and his other insurance is his secondary (since the transplant). So Medicare picks up 80% and his other insurance picks up the other 20%. Before the transplant it was the other way around.

We live in TN which is a state where you can actually buy a part D supplement before the age of 65, so Carl did that (effective Nov. 1). His Part D is through Humana. He also changed his secondary to Mutual of Omaha.

We haven't had time to see how this new arrangement will work, but our agent worked through every angle to make sure it would save us considerable money.
