My name is Mary. I have had increasing kidney failure for around ten years now, and have just had my PD catheter installed. There is no apparent reason for my kidney failure - my glomury thingummies are slowly going to the Great Kidney in the Sky. I will be starting CAPD in the next few months.
My dialysis unit is part of our local hospital, and I already feel comfortable about the setup there. The nurses are helpful, encouraging and friendly. I haven't checked out the HD section yet, but it looks light and bright. I am hoping I wont need that section for a good few years yet. The whole setup is a not for profit arrangement - as it would be all over Australia. Nothing seems to be at all rushed, questions are encouraged - I feel quite comfortable about my approaching PD.
My main hope is that I can outlast my two cats - I estimate I need ten years. My fingers are crossed.

You have come to a good place!
And it looks like you have a good set-up for PD.
I think your cats can expect to have you around for a long time! :2thumbsup;

Hi Mary!
We've got members on here going on twice that or more for dialysis treatment time. You'll outlive a second set of cats at that rate! Stay positive, learn all you can, and take charge - it helps a lot!

Hi, MaryD! Sounds as though you're off to a good start, with a dialysis unit that's comfortable and staff that are encouraging. You'll find lots of help here too. Your two cats can expect to have you with them for a good many years to come! Good luck on your journey.

Hi Mary, I'm so glad you found us. I worry about my 2yr old Min Pin. Who would take care of my furbaby so that keeps me going.
You have come to the right place. You sound strong.

Hi Mary & Welcome to IHD from a fellow aussie!!! :ausflag;
It sounds like you have a supportive setup where you are which really helps and I love that you have kitties for company. Do not worry you will have their company for many years to come - and they yours. Just ask my mistress she would agree (if she was awake! :) ).
I'm so glad you found your way here and look forward to hearing more. I wonder if your condition might not be FSGS of some sort (scaring of the kidney filters?).
Anyway again welcome to IHD!
