Title: Oct. 30th meeting changed to Nov. 20th
Post by: plugger on October 22, 2011, 06:25:17 AM
Barring another act of nature, we have planned a meeting for November 20th along with Front Range Kidney Patient Association (an organization of which I also belong) with guest speaker Colorado State Representative John Kefalas.  Possible Standards of Care (http://www.dialysisethics2.org/index.php/Solutions/standards-of-care-in-colorado.html) are to be discussed along with how to improve care for dialysis patients.

Meeting:
Where:
Porter Hospital, Twin Peaks room
2525 South Downing Street
Denver, CO 80210

When:
November 20th 2pm to 3:30

*food will be provided (Meat, cheese, cracker tray; fruit tray; hot beverages)

Come listen to a discussion and offer your input! (or just listen if you are so inclined).

Our guest speaker, Rep. John Kefalas, had his house severely damaged during this last snowstorm with it's falling tree branches and will be unable to attend this Sunday's meeting (Oct. 30th).  We are working to reschedule for Nov. 20th.

We will tell you about the snowstorms  :santahat; :snowman;, but we won't tell you about the October 80 degree weekends  8) - keeps the place from getting too crowded.  So shhhhh!!!  Don't tell anybody!!!!!

Hey, maybe you can drop on by!  We live on the front range - along with most people in Colorado.  I came through the eastern plains from Ohio when I first got here - thought they were lying about the mountains until I saw them just sort of pop out of the ground in the middle of the state.

Can get a hold of me by either pm'ing me here or through the DialysisEthics website if you are in the area.

Plug & Thegramma, how many miles from Nashville, Tn. to where you guys live?  We might just plan to come next year.  I have always wanted to travel out west, and Colorado is one that I really want to see.  But man, that is a long way by car, but I sure not going to fly!

Yea, I would love to meet and visit too!  You never know, We may just pop up at your door!  Lol. Seriously, would love to make a trip your way in the next year.  God Lord willing.

That means I would get to see the new little one, Thegramma!  But it will be probably a year older though, which is fine by me! I do love the Grandbabies!!!!!

Got to go, folks!  Love ya'll,

Checked it out, you are only a little old 1200 miles away!  I don't have any Grandbabies yet, but I do have Granddoggies: a greyhound and a beagle-dachshund mix (the daughter and son-in-law had to get the 2nd dog or the greyhound would eat the apartment - she got lonely).

I love granddogs too, just not as use to them!  Wow 1200 miles, I could probly do 800 to 900, but the rest would have to follow next day.  I will PM you about it.  Do you live near Ridgeway?  Sorry I know this thread started about a cancelled care meeting!  Sometimes I think that politicians talk a big stick, but when it comes down to reality, they just dont have the heart for the finish!  More heart toward the Almighty $$$$

God Bless,

Looks like Ridgway is a ways off, southwest corner of the state.  We are north of Denver.  Maybe we could meet in Colorado Springs?  Sounds like plenty of time to think about it!

Guess you have noticed too the link there seems to be between politicians and money.  We are lucky to have found a state rep who is interested in this and who helped us get the bill for tech certification passed back in 2007.  Those on dialysis definitely don't have a lot clout, not in money and not in numbers.  People really have to work to get the attention of our legislators, and hope interested legislators can get the attention of their colleagues.  To be fair, I've watched these guys work and they seem to bounce around like ping pong balls - issue to issue, crisis to crisis.  And if someone can afford lobbyists to give one side of a story, that seems to help a great deal in getting one's way.

I know, Plug, and its a Damn shame! By your portfolio, sounds like youv'e been pulling teeth to be heard! You know, as a spouse to one who has this disease, I really knew nothing about it.  I heard of people on dialysis for many years, and am sorry to say, never gave it much thought!  It wasnt that I did not care or was heartless, it was just that I knew nothing about it!

Very different story now with me! I have people where I work who still just don't get it, but the ones who went through it with me do!  I can't fault them though, cause I never got it either back in the day.  We just have to keep on with the driving force behind D. which IMO, is adequate D!  The more of it, the better!

Keep on Pluggin, Plugger!  Believe it or not, you are reaching some in your area and in Cyber World!

Thank you for your kind words.  I felt like I did my civic duty back in 2007 helping with tech certification, but something keeps pulling me back - oh yeah, more like things such as the following: http://www.dialysisethics2.org/open_images/flyers/Legislative_flyer.pdf

Interesting and thanks for the info.  But I do question "Insure minimum treatment times (most patient treatments are at least 4 hours in Germany & Japan).  Can you clarify that for me?

Thanks in advance,

Sure!  The following came from a discussion with Dr. Agar from Home Dialysis Central.  We would like to to run pump speeds between 300 and 325 ml/min - as they do in Australia.  Increase time on dialysis and keep standardized Kt/V the same.  And possibly use HDP to figure dialysis adequacy:
HDP:  http://www.therenalnetwork.org/qi/resources/HDP.pdf
Dr. John Agar and discussion on pump speeds and time on dialysis: http://forums.homedialysis.org/showthread.php/2961-Hdp

Thinking this could bring our times closer to what Germany, Italy, and Japan are doing.
