Gwyn and I are utterly stunned by your generosity. This morning we found an envelope on our doorstep, no return address, barely a hint as to who sent such an incredible gift along with a lovely, profoundly touching message of support. We were stunned into silence by this gesture. (This in itself is no small feat.)
You clearly put effort into making sure that this gift was completely anonymous (you sneaky devil!), and we want to respect your wish to stay unknown to us. We do so hope that you are reading this and understand how very thankful we are to you for thinking of us. Once we are back on our feet again, we will be paying this forward. If you ever do decide to reveal yourself, we would welcome the opportunity to thank you personally. Your card brightened our day, and your gift overwhelmed us with gratitude and shock that anyone would think to reach out to us in this way.
Thank you, thank you, one million times, thank you. What an amazing site this is, attracting people who are determined to put the humanity back into life one message, one gift, one member at a time.
How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a naughty world. ~ William Shakespeare

People amaze me sometimes - in a good way. How nice! :2thumbsup;
-
how wonderful to see such niceness done.. Im happy for you and feel all warm inside... Thanks to whoever made you feel so good.. :flower;
-
Oooooh, a mystery!
I have questions! :clap;
First, if this envelope was found on your doorstep, are you saying that it was put there as opposed to being mailed?
Second, what makes you think it was from an IHD member?
Third, who do you know that is an IHD member and knows where you live and is close enough to put an envelope on your doorstep as opposed to mailing it (assuming it wasn't mailed)?
Well, whoever put it there was very kind, and it really is wonderful to know that someone is paying attention and cares. It must make you feel really good.
-
How wonderful, cariad! It's so good to know that there are people out there who believe we're all in this together, and are willing to 'walk the walk'.
-
Having a pretty awful day. I sign on and read this. It really made my day. It so nice to read something like this.
-
That is so nice we all say we don't need the help but isn't wonderful when someone actually thinks of us and helps us with out asking and expect nothing in return there truly is good people in this world and I am so glad to belong to this forum because so far the little time that I have been here it seems a lot of those people are on this forum I also want to thank this anonymous person because you didn't just help this beautiful family but you have touched my hart and I'm sure anybody and everybody who read this will be touched too :2thumbsup;

Thanks everyone for helping me express my appreciation to our mystery member.
I have answers for you, MM! It was sent Priority Mail, addressed to both of us. The postman did not put it through the mail slot (we don't have a letterbox), I guess it did not fit. It was luck that we found it, because the postman will normally ring the bell to alert us that he's left something outside, but we must have been out when he stopped by. We don't use that door all that often, so we have had items sitting out there for days (though a neighbour will eventually happen by and ring the bell if we leave anything out there too long, and we are fortunate that we do not have a big crime problem in our area).
Gwyn had already opened it by the time he brought it upstairs, meaning that the postmark had been ripped off and recycled by the time I saw it. He probably thought it was a legal document from one of our various adventures in employment and contract law. The person identified themselves as an IHD member and the only hint to their identity was that he or she has met us. Oh, and they have handwriting that is so neat that I originally thought it was a computer font.
Now, the postmark is sitting in our recycling bin (the indoor one) so we could easily take it out and check where it is from. There is also a tracking number on the envelope that I still have sitting here in front of me. However, and I hope we are correct in deducing this, the person did not sign their name so I can only assume that he or she would prefer not to be identified. So, while the suspense is positively killing me (in a fun way), I can completely understand why they chose this method, and I will happily leave it to them to PM me or not.
Until that possibly happens, everyone in Vegas, plus two other members, are suspects. Therefore, what we are going to do is gather everyone together on some dark and stormy night, ideally at a spooky, abandoned mansion in a secluded part of town, and all sit down to cocktails in the drawing room. I'll then announce that all exits have been locked and mobile devices incapacitated. Then we'll let the questioning begin. This is a tried and true formula for solving all mysteries, and I am not one to tamper with success. ;D
For the sender, again, our biggest, sincerest thanks. :cuddle; :grouphug;

That sounds like a lovely plan. I, too, am rejoicing in your good fortune! :2thumbsup; But, no, we did not have anything to do with this! I do applaud the random act of kindness that has brightened your lives and in so doing, has brightened the lives of others!
Marc, I'm so sorry that you are having an awful day. :thumbdown;

I would suggest that no that dark & stormy night when you gather everyone together, the first question should be which one is/was a butler. Everyone knows the butler always did it! :ROFL; I love when people do things anon. They truly care and are not doing it for the glory. :2thumbsup; May GOD bless you & your secret angel!
-
:clap; Random acts of kindness are such a beacon in what can seem like a dark world at times. I hope that karma will touch the sender ... and inspire others as well. :grouphug; IHD is so special in so many ways.

i just love this. at children's hospital in denver is a sculpture of a tree, all the "leaves" are dedicated to people who people who have made donations to the hospital the one most precious to me simply say anonymous. one of my favorite quotes, who knows from where, is " the reward for public prayer is the prayer itself". the most precious gift is the one given in anonymity. you are truly blessed. this site is truly a blessing.

There are more good people in the world then bad - I wish the news would reflect that.
If someone does you a good turn - Pass it on. Maybe we can make the world a better - a little bit at a time.

That right there tells you it's GOT to be a woman. Sorry guys, but I've never met a man whose strong suit was penmanship! :rofl;

Now, that's no guarantee. If it were me, I'd've sent it to any of a dozen Midwestern/Eastern states and had family or friends re-mail it for me to really cover my tracks. >:D

Now that sounds like fun! I'm in!

LOVE this ...... what a wonderful gesture. It's nice to see such kindness in these harsh times. Pay it forward, indeed. My best to you and your family.

Really? I used to bring the tags for the presents from Santa into work and have a woman fill them out for me so the handwriting would be different and not recognizable. About the postmark. For Secret Santa I thought about putting a package inside a package and mailing it to the first city. They of course would know it was coming and open it and mail the package that was inside. I did not have the time nor the funds to mail it twice but it is a possibility.
-
OK, so this means that it's someone who has met you AND someone who has access to your mailing address. Did you meet anyone from IHD in Vegas who was also your Secret Santa? Your SS would have had access to your address. OR, perhaps a mod?
If you figure it out, don't tell us as this person obviously wants to remain anonymous.
I'm still trying to work out which anonymous IHD member sent along a monetary contribution for the dinner in Vegas. I have an idea, but I won't say anything because I may be wrong. :P
-
i kept hoping to win big in vegas so i could afford to do more things like this! I love hearing about it, it makes me want to pay it forward as well. I try to do things like tthis when i can, but its usually not monetary as i am poooor lol but even with a gesture or a hug or smile. Ah thanks for brightening my day!
i love this site!

Anytime you make the effort to post some supportive words to a member who may be struggling is a way to make someone's life just a bit easier. It doesn't have to be about money. :cuddle;

How wonderful. I love reading things like this. Who ever you are, you are just an amazing person :clap; to help another person you hardly know. This is truly a real family on here... I see more helping, or more offers to help one another from this group of people then I have ever seen even from close friends and family.
-
People will surprize you....there is hope, humanity, and love in the world! :) What a wonderful gesture!!
xo,

That is really lovely! I hope whomever was so kind- gets kindness in return all the days on this earth! Thankyou to whoever it was- helps to restore my faith in humanity! :flower;

Completely agree!
You all are so crafty with your ways to elude detection. Gwyn has been suggesting that perhaps those methods were employed.
But, no, we did not have anything to do with this!
Hmmm, isn't this what the actual sender would want us to believe? :rofl; (You can see how this could do a person's head in.) Thanks for sharing my joy, Aleta, and sorry, you'll still be expected to attend the interrogation.
I had not heard the story of the IHD Vegas dinner donation. What did I miss? Yeah, I refuse to publicly guess who I think it was, because I would feel bad if I were wrong. In considering the tone of the card - you learn a lot about a person's writing style and word usage on here - I will only say the following:
I have settled on four primary suspects.
Three of them have already posted in this thread.
-
Now Cariad don't spoil this person's fun by investigating too much!
-
It was Miss Scarlet in the library with ..... HA. I love a good mystery.
-
.... OR, perhaps a mod?
Just for the record, the admins and mods do not have addresses, only emails, and unless the member has given permission to share their info via PM with me, or from the Secret Santa list, we do not divulge that info to anyone.
-
Secret good deeds!!!!! Love it!!!! :flower;
-
It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to know that amazingly supportive and loving people exist in the world (and even more warm and fuzzy to know that I share webspace with them on here.)
:cheer:

Yes, this is absolutely true. I was asked for my mailing address and permission to release it to our mystery angel. :2thumbsup;
No privacy worries here.

Who asked you for your mailing address? That person had to know who the mystery angel is, otherwise s/he would have hesitated to ask you for security reasons. So, someone other than the angel knows who the angel is. Is that right?
OK, I'm going to stop asking questions because while I really would like to know who the angel is, it's not my place to go stepping on peoples' privacy. If, cariad, you ever find out who it is, let us know that you've discovered their identity but that you won't divulge it. :clap;
-
OK, I believe this person has stuck again, and I just cannot thank them enough for thinking of me and Gwyn.
Christmas Eve I received a package postmarked from New Jersey, where I do not know anyone to my knowledge. It was from a K. Kringle! A lovely tin of sweets. Oh, the boys were as overjoyed as I was. It was the perfect start to a wonderful Christmas. The handwriting looked identical to the person who sent us the generous gifts a few months ago.
I apologise if it is a different person and I am getting this wrong, but I did want to say thanks so much. I am overwhelmed by your generosity my mystery friend, and by the generosity and goodwill that I see on IHD on a regular basis.
I am simply speechless. Thank you.

:yahoo; Your secret gifter strikes again!
