Title: NxStage UF amount variance
Post by: Dannyboy on October 18, 2011, 07:38:52 AM
I've noticed that the actual amount of fluid removed during my treatments on NxStage never matches the amount I've "asked for" (by setting the UF volume).    Always have *more* fluid removed than expected.  The 'overshoot' amount is not consistent, sometimes .1 Kg, other times as much as .6 Kg.     My treatments are long enough that the UF always finishes prior to the end of the over-all treatment, as expected from the rate setting.

This is of course not a big deal, just wondering if others see this.   I'm guessing NxStage doesn't *directly* measure UF, must be making an estimate through an algorithm based on other treatment numbers.

Hi Dan, do you mean the last readings on the machine, or your weight readings??

The "actual amount of fluid removed" (i.e. by arithmetic on before/after weight).

Example:  I set NxStage for 1.5 Kg, but weight difference before/after indicates 2.1 was removed, .6 Kg more than expected.

Dan, when you determine the amount of fluid you need to remove, in your original set up, what are you puting in your (yellow) on your toggle?

I wonder what your setting 35 (i think thats the one i mean) is.  Thats an internal setting that will either take off  .3 at start of session, or not depending on how its set.  Your center can let you know what your's is set at. That will  impact the last readings that you take off the machine at end of tx.  I know im not being clear with this, but hopfully someone will step in and clear that up.  Bo's 'weight' from the scale will often not come out showing that we took off the whole amt of what we asked to be taken off, but thats just usually due to him drinking/eating something.  But when we put in to take off 1.2 (or what ever) and we take the last readings off the machine, it so far has always said we've taken off 1.2( or what ever we took).  Now, there have been times where we have stoped the fluid removal early due to cramping, and then gone ahead and added a couple more towards the end and once again, it will end up saying what we entered minus/pluss what ever we added or lessened.
