Given, this topic is full different feelings and emotions. But, I got to talk to my close from Nicole about it.
I have more than a few friends who are actively participating in http://occupyboston.com/ (ftp://occupyboston.com/). I will say, If could physically, I would. but so far, I've asked my friends if there's anything they need, and will be bringing some things for my friend Nicole.
I will say, as someone who lives in Boston, and knows the areas they speak of. Also, I fully believe in the cause.
I know there are people who disagree. And that's ok. But, I will say this much.
I have the first amendent. "Freedom of speech". I should be able to go on the streets of my own free country and peacefully say my piece. Not be arrested because I'm in someone's way. Menino may be right about a lot of things, but not this one.
If anyone is wondering why I decided to post about this, this is why:
As many are aware. As patients, we cannot really go on Davita's site and blast them for shit they do. For the mediocre care we get in some places in this country. For the fact so many of us cannot get a transplants due to such high costs of medication. Even if it's a better option and actually costs insurance less to pay for transplant meds than for dialysis.
We are citizens of a country where our health should matter to our governments. Where a transplant shouldn't be unattainable due to the cost.
That as far as I understand from the front page of this site, this is a site where as patients we can say what we feel. We can express ourselves, even if it insults a medical practice. So politics aside, At IHD we can express ourselves, we have freedom to talk about the things that bother us about the system. We can find support in each other.
But, this is a act of freedom of speech that effects us right now. And, how would we feel if we were no longer allowed to "rant" or had to limit what we had to say.
Anyways, Considering this is on my mind. And that so many of my close friends have recently been arrested/let go.. just to prove a point. that "public "disobedience" will not be tolerated". I felt like saying my piece. I wish my friends the best. And am glad I was able to help in ways I could.
I also thought I'd throw in this.

Davita is "corporate America" personified, and this "Occupy Wall Street" movement is protesting how this country seems to be constantly putting corporate profit ahead of the good of the people, particularly chronically ill people.
I understand the idea of making a profit, and I am not against that, but the notion of making obscene profits from sick people just seems morally suspect. Davita is in a spot of legal bother right now, so I'll be interested to see how that pans out. I don't understand how the very rich think they will continue to make so much money if the middle class...the true consumer class...is systematically destroyed. Davita is not going to make any money if everyone loses their jobs and has no insurance that will pay Davita for dialysis. What goes around, comes around.

We participated in Occupy Knoxville last week. (We're in Western Mass this week!) I get it!
I read the on-line newspaper article (which had a picture of Carl) and the comments afterward. OMG! There were so many folks who really did not understand what the protests are about. http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2011/oct/07/occupy-knoxville-supporters-advocate-for/ (http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2011/oct/07/occupy-knoxville-supporters-advocate-for/)
I support you! :2thumbsup;
