Title: Anyone have their rejected kidney removed?
Post by: Beth35 on September 15, 2011, 04:00:43 AM
Ive been having lots of problems the past few weeks.  I have been in and out of the hospital.  Turns out my transplanted kidney is swollen.  Probably some type of acute rejection.  Ive been on dialysis since  March.  They tried heavy duty steroids and sent me home twice but Im still in pain and I need to head back to the ER.
I think our only choice now is to remove the kidney and Im scared.  Is it a tough surgery?  How is the recovery period?  Im a single mom with two young kids.  My mom has been here taking care of them while I have been in the hospital for the past two weeks and its been hard on everyone.
Ive had two fistulas, one graft, one tunneled cathetor all in the last year.  Im tired and depressed.  Hoping to know what to expect.

I had my first failed trx kidney removed 2 months after getting my second still functionning transplant.  I was in pain and the surgery was right through the same incision, sewed up and then the usual abdominal healing.  If it's not working but causing no trouble, then fine, leave it, but if it's not working and causing pain I'd get rid of it.  :cuddle;
