Title: hemoglobin levels with transplant
Post by: tyefly on September 12, 2011, 09:30:31 PM
Want to know what hemoglobin level are used for transplant people....we all know that hemoglobin levels with dialysis are 10-12.... can we be higher...back to the normal levels.....  mine right now are 8.4.... I have never been that low.....  out of breath alot..but I think they are going to start me back on epo for a while...untill that kidney kick in.......  just was wondering what others are doing with their hemoglobin levels....

Did the transplant center not give you a goal?  8.4 is pretty low!  When is your next checkup?

Mine was about 10.5 soon after transplant and has slowly climbed over 18 months to the low end of normal without epo or suppliments. I  would guess if you don't reach 10 soon, they will give you a shot.

With this trx my levels run high...like 15...but the last one I did epo shots.  It may take a while to level out I'm guessing.   :cuddle;

I typically run about 11 but I have never been off epo with this transplant. My neph wants me at about this level.

Carl's have run high. They told him that the signals from the kidney that shut off the production of hemoglobin were not getting through. They had to "bleed" him to bring his down some.

I bet you are just washed OUT!

I was really low at the beginning, and needed epo every week.  I went back off it and now mine actually runs 13-14 most of the time, which is considered at the high end of the range for a woman.  I'm okay with that!

8.4?    I  feel  for you!!!                        At  one  point  I  was  readmitted  due  to  abdomen  pain.   My  hemoglobin  was  in the  8's.    I  was  given blood,  which  I  didn't want  at  first.          I  actually  refused  it.
The  TX  neph   said  'Ok  tell you  what  we'll  wait  one  more  day  and  see where  you're numbers  are.
He  was  very  clear, and  told  me they  would probably  drop  some  more  and  at  the  point  they  would  strongly  recommend  the transfusion,  although I had the  choice to  refuse  it  again.
The   next  day  labs  showed  my  Hgb  had  dropped  some  more   >:(        Neph  asked me  what I  wanted  to  do?   I  decided  to  go  ahead  and  take the  transfusion  as  much  I  hated the  idea.

My  Hgb  has  been  in the 10's  and the  last   6 weeks  in the low  11's  which still    makes  me  feel  tired.

I  was  told  by  Coordinator  when    I was  running  in the  10's  that  my  insurance  would  not  pay  for  EPO  unless  I  dropped  below  10.

Jenna was always around 10 or 11. If it dropped below 10 she'd get epo, but it was maybe once in 4 years. Lori Hartwell told me it takes a while for the kidney to produce hormones, not sure why, I need to ask her. I hope you feel better soon!  :cuddle;

Mine runs slightly low all the time, but notto where epo is needed. About 3 or 4 diferent of the blood levels run slightly low all the time unless sick.
