Do any of you live in a remote area and dialize at home? I'm thinking of moving to an area that dosn't have a dialysis center anywhere near it. I start class next week for nxstage and so far it sound like it's totally doable but I would like to hear from anyone that's lives in remote areas how it's working for them and any issues you have that I may not be thinking of.
Thanks,
Ed

How remote is remote? I was in northern Michigan when I was on. I think it worked pretty well. Better than traveling the long distance to the center all the time. Depending on how far out you are, the only issue you might have is emergency change-outs when the machine has an unfixable problem. I had a little airport about half an hour away, and they flew overnight shipments of new machines directly in to it, so it was usually pretty prompt.
Oh, yeah, and how often do you lose power? If it's a frequent, long term thing, you might want to consider a generator.

Other than the power outage, I don't see any problems being remotely located. I mean, is there like a road to this remote place where your supply's can be delivered?
You are so going to like NxStage. I can't wait to read your experiences with it! And the thoughts of "Home" is just the icing on the cake! I hope you do it, Gryphon! Good Luck and keep us posted!

Homer Alaska is where I'm moving to. It's at least a 2 hour drive to the closest center. There is a road that goes there and an airport. It's a real town but it is small and semi remote.

Gryphon, hubby does NxStage and we are just over 100 miles from our supporting clinic. It's about a 2 hour drive. We have no trouble getting supplies even though our delivery driver says we live in BFE :rofl; And UPS goes pretty much everywhere! We have had 2 new machines delivered and they are flown into the airport in the same town our clinic is in and then sent by courier to our home.

I live in a small town, and my home dialysis centre was about a four hour trip by bus. I'm finally transferring to a new centre that's about 45 min away. I've never had any problems with getting supplies or having equipment replaced.

That is one great thing about NxStage support, they can send anything you need as long as Neph is okay with it, they are too! Iam on my 2nd machine also! And another thing, they have an awesome tech support! You call and they are there on the phone with you until you are comfortable with everything! They are Top Notch as is evidence from post above. I am very pleased with this machiine and the people behind it!
I don't know of anyone on this site, that really have a bad thing to say about this machine! Anyone?????????????

P.S. Looney, I thought about you when the question of "Remote" came up! I know you leave out in the country or at least I have read that!
