Title: FAIL Techs
Post by: gkcoley on August 31, 2011, 02:17:05 PM
 :rant;

Why is it, in a unit with 6 nurses, even when i am not in her area, the one nurse who has trouble sticking me always seems to be the one to stick me??? every other nurse has no problem.  This one always has to dig around and usually has to do 3 sticks, im not even in the area assigned to her!!  I try so hard to be nice to her and help her learn to stick me but when she doesnt listen to simple directions like 'go straight, not at an angle' then i tend to snap at her then feel bad about it cause i know it sint her fault that you cant cure stupid...sometimes nurses need to be snapped out of their little world  :Kit n Stik;

You can refuse to let her stick you.  I would if it was my arm!

Not sure of your network but I was told by network 13 that I can not request to have another nurse or tech to deal with me. found out that right was removed from the patient rights list

GKC, is there any reason you cant D at home? You are awfully young and you seem to be a smart guy!  Check in to it.  These techs are just not trained properly, and there are quite a bit of turn-overs in some clinics.  Inquire about home D.  You should at least give it a try, then if it doesnt suite you, you can always go back to the clinic.

So sorry you are having to go through this junk.  The only answer I know of is: Do it at home!!!!!! Its ridiculous what goes on in these clinics  :stressed;      :Kit n Stik;

Hey, I started dialysis around your age, and I had the same issue sometimes with certain techs being bad sticks. Recently I've started training for self-cannulation. Now I am thinking, "Why didn't I do this years ago??" It's a lot easier than you think it would be. Find out if your clinic allows for self-cannulation; most clinics do as long as they feel the patient is capable of learning and is also physically able to do so. Once the patient learns, it frees up their techs for more work, so it's usually a win-win for bot you and the clinic. No one is going to know your arm better than you.

Once you do your own needles, you'll not be wanting anyone else to do the job.

I feel ya! I can't see so sticking myself is out of the question, wouldn't be able to see the flash or what I'm doing lol.
Only certain people can stick my graft because at the both connections it's at the surface of the skin but in the middle it's pretty deep, usually they go too deep or not deep enough.

even though it may not be listed in the patient rights list you don't have to let someone stick you that you don't want to.  no one and i mean no one practices on me! i've been on dialysis for 5 years and i've only had one person argue with me. she lost!  you have rights and they aren't necessarily the ones the dialysis center is willing to list.

have you ever gotten those techs, when the needle won't advance they start pounding on it like a hammer and a nail? I'm like might as well pull this one and restick!
